Reviews Summary

McKay's Public House is praised for its charming Victorian ambiance and romantic outdoor garden seating, making it a popular spot for a sophisticated dining experience. While many rave about signature dishes like the seafood risotto and desserts, some diners have noted issues with slow service and inconsistent food temperature. There's also a significant concern raised about the restaurant's handling of food allergies, with one review detailing a very negative experience.

"A lovely spot if you’re looking for something a little more upscale in Bar Harbor. We really enjoyed our meals: braised short ribs and the meatloaf. The blueberry pie was also very delicious. Our server was very friendly and attentive."

Harley Craddock

"What a great place to dine. The outside patio is beautiful. The inside is so nice. The staff is very friendly. And the food... amazing! We were recommended to try the seafood risotto which did not disappoint. So creamy with huge scallops, chunks of lobster, and shrimp. We also had the lobster Mac and cheese. Again the chunks of lobster were huge. The bread was tasty with the garlic butter. After all that there unfortunately was no room for dessert. Although, I did hear some guests at another table fighting over their desserts. Would definitely recommend this restaurant for a delicious dinner in Bar Harbor."

Deb Tryzbiak

"Had the Shepard's Pie which was excellent. It was authentic being made with lamb (most restaurants in the US turn this dish into an abomination by substituting ground beef for the lamb).
For desert, had the Southern Sundae with caramel, Gelato, and caramelized bacon bits. The bacon bits were surprisingly good and went well with the gelato.
Service was professional and superb.
The restaurant is appropriately upscale and clean."
