Reviews Summary

Cafe This Way is a highly recommended breakfast spot in Bar Harbor, praised for its exceptional blueberry pancakes and creative dishes like the Lobster Benedict. While many rave about the delicious food and fast, friendly service, some note that the prices can add up, particularly when adding extra ingredients to scrambles. The quirky, artistic atmosphere and outdoor seating also contribute to its popularity, making it a must-visit for many.

"Such a cute spot! We liked it so much we went both mornings we spent in Bar Harbor. Service was exceptional the minute we walked in and were greeted. Our coffee mugs were never empty and the food came out very fast. Pictured is the “Smokey” scramble. I’ve never had smoked trout before and this was fantastic. The second morning I ordered the White Bean Shakshuka and it came with a perfectly poached egg. If I come back to Bar Harbor I will definitely be coming back!"

Anna T. Wright (HikingIsLifeNH)

"We arrived at 11:30am and did not have to wait for seating on a Tuesday in July. They have indoor and outdoor seating and we chose first available. Service was fast and the staff was very attentive and friendly.

My daughter had the CWT fried bacon and bagel sandwich, we tried the peach pancakes, my husband had a scramble with sourdough toast, and I had a scramble with gluten-free toast. We also ordered a vanilla latte, a milk, and an orange juice.

The scrambles are good, but they add up once you add all of the meat and vegetables and become a little bit pricey. The drinks are a bit expensive as well and we ended up spending $81 plus tip on breakfast!

The sourdough toast is good and I thought the gluten-free toast was excellent. It was light and fluffy and not chewy. Gluten-free bread can be hit or miss and this was really good gluten-free bread and would probably make great French toast, but I did not try the French toast.

The orange juice was good and the milk was good and cold. My daughter enjoyed her bacon, egg and cheese bagel and my scramble was excellent and a very large portion.

The big hit of the day was the peach pancakes. We ordered those to share and that plate is empty. The pancake texture and flavor were excellent. They have real whipped butter available, and the syrup was really good.

We had an excellent experience and the food was delicious so here so will come back again during our short visit to Bar Harbor."

Lisa Johnson

"My husband and I shared:
- Lobster Benedict
- Maine Blueberry Pancake
- Home Fries
- Atlantic Brewing Blueberry Soda

The food was absolutely delicious. I expected to like the Benedict more and it was so good, but the blueberry pancake blew me away. I don't love pancakes, but this one was thin, crispy, and had so much flavor. It was the best pancake I've ever had.

The portion sizes are on the smaller side and prices are fairly high, but that's typical of lobster in Maine. We arrived a bit before 11 and didn't have to wait too long for a table."

But the ones at Cafe This Way were special, light and airy, full of berries, and accompanied by real maple syrup. Good dinners were found at Rupununi’s (a pub-like place that dished up a tasty Atlantic charbroiled salmon plate in a teriyaki-type sauce accompanied by rice and fresh green beans) and Casa on Cottage (a Mexican spot far better than the usual Tex-Mex, offering very good chicken mole with refried beans and rice as well as an excellent vegan enchilada). Tried ice cream in a couple spots, and the best was a surprisingly vibrant blueberry soft-serve at CJ’s.

A sign points customers to this tucked-away eatery set back from Mount Desert Street near the Village Green, which is breakfast-only (a change from years past)—the pancakes are quite popular. Opening at 6:30 am to catch the crowds who’ve worked up an appetite savoring sunrise atop Acadia National Park’s Cadillac Mountain, it stays open until 1 pm for those who want breakfast for lunch. Seating is divided about evenly inside and out, making this a great choice for nice summer mornings.

Cafe This Way — Located on a small side street in downtown Bar Harbor, Cafe This Way is one of the most popular brunch spots on the island. The restaurant’s interior has an artistic and hip feel, with bookshelves and art lining the walls and retro-themed furniture filling the open-air dining area, reminiscent of a cafe you might find in Portland, Oregon. The menu features traditional options like omelets, benedicts, and breakfast burritos (including vegan options), as well as creative takes on traditional meals, like the Cafe Monte Cristo — a breakfast sandwich consisting of fried egg, ham, and cheese served on french toast with syrup.

For fine dining, make reservations at Havana, where the menu features Latin-inspired cuisine. Best Breakfast | A bit quirky (yes, that’s a garage door opening onto the patio) and charmingly eclectic (artsy tabletops laminated with images of everything from Charlie’s Angels to Moxie), this Bar Harbor café ticks all the breakfast boxes: organic and vegan options, a slew of Benedicts and omelets, and pancakes and French toast with real maple syrup. We recommend planning a good hike after downing the Café Monte Cristo, a French toast sandwich loaded with fried egg, ham, and cheddar cheese served with home fries.
