There are unfortunately no cats at this breakfast spot on Cottage Street, but you should still start your day here by scarfing down homemade corned beef hash and a flaky biscuit slathered in strawberry butter. After a little more shut eye, Leanne and I packed up and went to Bar Harbor's 2 cats for breakfast. After a yummy breakfast, we spent time gift shopping in town and lounging in the grassy knoll in the town center before leaving the island.

2 Cats Bar Harbor is a great place if you have the feel of a fresh home cooked meal because everything here is handmade!. That’s right, they make everything on their menu right in their own kitchen; including a ridiculous array of delicious baked goods like muffins and biscuits. Enjoy handcrafted plates of breakfast staples like Omelettes, Pancakes, and French Toast, plus they have vegetarian friendly options like the Tofu Scramble!

Open on weekends only during the off-season, this café is worth the five-day wait. Their “adventurous plates filled with tasty, homemade fare” have been reviewed in Down East magazine, and their ever-changing menu is always a hit with locals and visitors both. If you’re looking for an utter taste sensation that will hold you until dinner, try the 3-egg omelet with smoked salmon, cream cheese, and capers.

When your all-day plans consist of hikes in and around Acadia, there’s no way a continental breakfast is going to cut it. I admit I first chose 2 Cats (130 Cottage St.) for the name, but the dependable brunch menu made both of us immediately happy. Even though Dan could hike for hours on carbs and sugar alone, 2 Cats has lured him over to the savory side of things.

The onsite restaurant opens on May 25 and is renowned for its fluffy popovers, but the view from the house lawn of the pond and the nearby Bubble mountains is a timeless showstopper.

Since then, it has been standing strong and has become a community staple for breakfast, brunch, and snacking needs.

They have only one outside table designated for people with dogs so it might be a good idea to call ahead to see if it is available or plan on waiting.

We’re up early again, so we take a stroll through Bar Harbor to 2 Cats Restaurant for breakfast. At a table in the sunshine, we enjoy a hearty meal of blueberry pancakes, bacon, and eggs Benedict. We drive over to the western side of the island to explore Southwest Harbor.

He got the corn beef hash and I got the gluten free blueberry pancakes. Both of us left full and satisfied. I can’t wait to come back later in our trip and try something new - especially since the spicy home fries are gluten free as well.
