Reviews Summary

Miss Shirley's Cafe is lauded for its creative American cuisine with a Southern twist, particularly its award-winning Chicken and Waffles and indulgent French toast options. Diners rave about the friendly service and generous portions. However, some find the prices a bit high and note that restrooms require leaving the restaurant.

"I recently had breakfast at Ms. Shirley's Cafe while visiting Baltimore. With a name like that, I knew the food would be good...and it was.

I ordered the lemon blueberry cheesecake stuffed French toast (yes, it was as decadent as it sounds), along with chicken sausage, scrambled eggs, because I gotta have my protein, and a cup of regular house coffee. Even the house coffee was good. I was tempted to try one of their signature cocktails, but it was the day before a race, so I passed. Still, their 20th anniversary drink menu looked amazing.

The food came out hot and fast, and the service was just as great. Shoutout to my server, Andrew, who was kind, prompt, and efficient. The check-in system was super smooth, and I appreciated being able to wait inside the lobby of the building instead of outside in Baltimore’s heat and humidity. The wait was a little long - around 40 minites, but average for a Saturday morning.

All around, it was a great experience — good food, great service, and thoughtful hospitality. If I’m ever in Baltimore again, I’m definitely going back. And bonus: they have a location at the airport, so even if you’re just passing through, you can still get a taste of Ms. Shirley’s delights. ( I have some red flag that the reviews for the airport location are not as great as the locations in the city.)"

"Fantastic! We picked this place on a whim looking for one of the best brunch spots in Baltimore and we were very happy with the selection. Once we arrived, we saw how much acclaim Miss Shirley's has received, such as from Restaurant Hospitality Magazine and Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives. I can see why!

To start, I really enjoyed the pimento cheese biscuit and the Shirley's Crush cocktail was quite refreshing. For my main, I went with the Southern Slammer Sandwich, which already sounded good but I couldn't pass up a winner of the best breakfast sandwich in America according to Restaurant Hospitality Magazine. Absolutely delicious. I loved the simple ingredients yet their flavor together was unforgettable. A great sandwich and not overly heavy in my opinion. The stone ground grits were incredible as well.

Ester provided great service during our brunch. It sounds like we got pretty lucky with a 30 minute wait as we heard it can get pretty busy. Definitely worth the wait!"

Aaron Schneider

"Saturday Brunch here with my wife and our son and daughter in law. The food was high quality and wonderfully flavored. I had the Banana Chocolate Chip Pancakes with A Scrambled Eggs w/ Cheese and the Cranberry Maple Turkey Sausage. The family had various omelets and everything was delicious. Truly a wonderful dining experience."

Restaurants in Baltimore

With amazing pancakes, omelets, and French toast, this upscale cafe, now with locations at the Inner Harbor and in North Baltimore's Roland Park, has become the go-to destination for unbeatable breakfast and brunch (neither outlet serves dinner). Lunch entrées like the Chesapeake Club (crab cake, shrimp salad, lettuce, bacon, red and yellow tomatoes, avocado, and Old Bay remoulade on sourdough toast, dusted with more Old Bay) are also excellent. There's another location at 513 W.

Where to Find Gluten-Free Food in Baltimore? (2024)

Miss Shirley’s is in a class by itself in Baltimore, synonymous with Southern-style comfort food, an angle that de-emphasizes the fact that they haven’t overlooked their gluten-free guests when it comes to providing menu selections that satisfy just about every possible craving, from pancakes at breakfast to fried chicken at lunch. Miss Shirley’s Café boasts fresh ingredients, and its gluten-free items are no exception. 15 Delectable Places To Find The Best Breakfast In Baltimore

Featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, Miss Shirley’s is one of those family-friendly cafes that locals and visitors flock to every morning. I lean toward more savory breakfast dishes and recommend the Chicken ‘n Cheddar Green Onion Waffles, but if you have a sweet tooth, try the Peach and Brown Sugar Donuts or Key Lime Cheesecake Stuffed French Toast. It’s Baltimore, hon, so you may want to opt for the Crab Happy Chesapeake Chicken Sammy with jumbo lump crab cake, Chesapeake chicken sausage, a fried egg, cheddar cheese, & fried pickles on English muffins.

The Best Way To See Baltimore In One Day

To start your day-long tour of the Crab Cake Capital of the World, make your way to Miss Shirley’s for a hefty breakfast. Though there is a location in the Inner Harbor, opt for the restaurant in tony Roland Park. This residential area is home to some of the state’s top prep schools, which also happen to have some of the best lacrosse teams in the country. (Lacrosse is the official team sport of Maryland, after all.) After you’ve passed through the streets of beautiful brick homes, grab a seat at Miss Shirley’s and order up a Maryland omelet, full of jumbo lump crabmeat.

The Top 3 Must Try French Toasts in Baltimore

When I went to Miss Shirleys Cafe, I decided to order the stuffed coconut cream french toast, which included caramelized bananas, whipped cream, and custard stuffed challah bread to create the ultimate combination. The portion size was huge, which made it perfect for sharing with friends. This french toast was definitely very rich in flavor, and I really appreciated the variety of options Miss Shirleys sold, especially seeing that they also sold seasonal french toasts such as pumpkin cheesecake french toast and cinnamon raisin french toast.

Featured consistently as one of the best restaurants in Baltimore, they are known for their out of this world breakfasts. Last time we visited, I was smart enough to order the Gravy Train Southern Skillet… fried buttermilk boneless chicken breast on a house made biscuit, collard greens with ham, grits, sausage gravy, cheddar, and a sunny side up egg all dusted with Cajun Spices. It honestly doesn’t get any better than that.
