Reviews Summary

P Thai's Khao Man Gai & Noodles is celebrated for its authentic Thai street food flavors, with standout dishes like the rich Boat Noodles and crispy Chicken Wings earning high praise. While the Khao Man Gai is a must-try for many, some find the execution of certain dishes inconsistent. The vibrant atmosphere and friendly service contribute to a positive dining experience, though occasional long lines and concerns about portion quality have been noted.

"Stopped by P Thai's with some friends and had a genuinely enjoyable experience. We ordered at the counter, and the staff was friendly and helpful, making the process smooth. Once seated, they brought our food to the table promptly.

We started with the wings—they were crispy, well-seasoned, and a great way to kick off the meal. The boat noodles were a standout: rich, flavorful broth with tender meat and perfectly cooked noodles. The fried pork belly was another highlight—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and not overly greasy.

Everything tasted authentic and thoughtfully prepared. The boat noodles, in particular, reminded me of dishes from central Thailand, especially around Bangkok, where this style of noodle soup is quite popular. The fried pork belly also had that classic Thai-Chinese influence that's prevalent in many Bangkok eateries.

Overall, P Thai's offers a warm, inviting atmosphere with dishes that transport you straight to the streets of Thailand. Definitely worth a visit if you're craving genuine Thai flavors in Austin."

"We tried the marinated chicken and fried chicken. I was expecting more flavor from the marinade. The cabbage that came with the chicken was good. The fried chicken tasted regular.
If you're in the area, give it a try. I did appreciate how they decorated the restaurant, you can see beautiful photographs hanging on the wall."

"The “Ba mee moo dang” is super amazing!! I love that chewy noodle!! The menu say this is spicy, but I think it’s good for anyone who can eat just a little bit spicy.
And the Thai tea is amazing too!!!!!!"

Over the course of a few hours, chicken at P Thai’s gets prepped, poached, cooled, hung to dry, and whispered words of affirmation to bring about the most tender meat possible. The end result is the best khao man gai in Austin. This same zen-like focus extends to the rest of the small but mighty menu, made up of regional Thai street foods like the spicy boat noodles that are rich with pork blood, or a highly refreshing pig tongue salad.

Chef Thai Changthong didn’t just transport his food stall from Hong Kong Supermarket to a building on Airport Boulevard. He expanded on his initial offerings, his menu now racing across a spectrum of flavors and spice, from the gentle khao man gai to the electric boat noodles. Fans of the stall are familiar with the titular slow poached chicken and will discover Changthong’s fiery side with a rice noodle dish made made with anise, five spice, pig's blood and stinging dry roasted Thai chilies that linger long after finishing the broth stuffed with pork loin and meatballs.

Since childhood, Thai Changthong has had a singular goal: make an authentic Thai version of Khao Man Gai. Growing up in Bangkok, the chef remembers visiting street food vendors who would serve the poached chicken and rice dish at the oldest Chinatown in Southeast Asia. Those core memories became his focal point when he opened the food stall iteration of his concept inside Hong Kong Supermarket in 2023.
