"I recently dined at Otoko in Austin for a romantic and celebratory evening, and it exceeded all expectations. From start to finish, the experience was truly exceptional.

The atmosphere struck a perfect balance between intimate and vibrant. It felt exclusive without being pretentious, making the setting ideal for our special night. The decor and lighting created a cool, modern vibe that immediately put us at ease.

The food was nothing short of spectacular. Each dish was a masterpiece, both in taste and presentation. The unique flavors were a delightful surprise, showcasing the chef's creativity and expertise. Every bite was an exploration of fresh and perfectly balanced ingredients.

The service was impeccable—attentive yet unobtrusive, making us feel pampered without any sense of rush. The staff's knowledge and passion for the food elevated our dining experience even further.

Otoko provided a memorable night that beautifully combined romance, celebration, and culinary artistry. We left with full hearts and happy stomachs, and we look forward to returning for another unforgettable dinner. Five stars all the way!"

Rhone McCall

"I took my fiance here for his birthday and we both absolutely loved it! They exceeded our expectations! They even personalized our menu to wish my fiance a happy birthday! We’ve been to multiple tasting menus here in Texas and this lands in our top 3.

We got to also experience Watermark and the drinks were so well made. The bartenders were very nice about explaining the drink menu. Atmosphere was perfect.

The experience was phenomenal and the staff were professional and very sweet. The chefs did such an amazing job and the food presentation was on point. We’d definitely recommend this restaurant and will back for sure!"

The 13 Best Fancy Restaurants In Austin For A Special Occasion Dinner - Austin

If you’re going to blow well over $300 per person on dinner, the sushi restaurant Otoko is where to do it. The futuristic design of the dining room set in a light tunnel makes it feel like you’re in a fancy spaceship, cruising along to a soundtrack of Bowie, Sun Ra, and Fugazi, with a chef who looks like he could have just hopped off any of their stages. Start with a cocktail at Watertrade next door (it has one of the biggest collections of Japanese whisky in town) then buckle up for a series of small plates that range from ultra-traditional bluefin tuna nigiri topped with fresh wasabi, to a few bites of white sea bass with Mexican marigold, chayote squash, and ume ponzu.

Few experiences can rival the kaiseki-style meal presented by Chef Yoshi at Otoko, which to describe as a “sushi restaurant” feels far too pedestrian. “Kaiseki” essentially refers to a traditional multi-course Japanese meal, prepared using select seasonal ingredients. The establishment itself inside the South Congress Hotel is gorgeous, and features only 12 seats for a truly intimate dining experience.

Kyoto-born Yoshi Okai made his way to Austin via San Francisco chasing the music scene, and you can still see that influence in the chef’s approach to sushi inside his futuristic 12-seat tasting counter at the South Congress Hotel.
