What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Cuantos Tacos is lauded for its authentic, flavorful Mexico City-style street tacos, with unique meat options like beef cheek and pork stomach being crowd favorites. While the tacos are small, diners often find them well worth the price and come back for more. However, some guests note that the picnic area seating can be less than ideal due to cleanliness concerns.
"Taking a walk after arriving at hotel and came across Arbor Food Park. Pretty good crowd for a Tuesday night with the hot spot being Cuantos. Decided on one brisket and two beef cheek tacos. They were both awesome and the salsas too! Staff was super-friendly...Would highly recommend!"

"We got the $16 platter with one of each taco and we were pleasantly surprised! The beef cheek and pork stomach were our favorites and let me tell you the mushroom taco was probably the spiciest item there! The parking is a bit annoying and the picnic area isnt really clean/nice so we ate in the car. However, the food is well worth it if you're in the area, and I will be back again and again and again!"

"The food was delicious, a lil greasy, perfectly seasoned and cooked thoroughly. I know because lots of these sit down burger places leave the meat pinkish in the middle. I came on a Saturday and a Friday for a return meal. They’ve got a price of $2.75 per taco after tax, and they’re not bite size, but small and delicious. Me and my mom had 8 (4 each) for $22 no tip after tax. I personally get 4 cachete (cheek) tacos with cilantro, green salsa, onions and lime. The tables they have seat 6 comfortably but they’re a bit worn with some paint damage and avg outside splashes of dried dirt. Still good seating. I’d recommend if you can’t find tacos of equal flavor below $3.25 if your by downtown Aus. I give it a 3 atmosphere because the occasional insect flies around and crawls up your food mostly ants and small flies. In 40 minutes of sitting around I was bothered only 3 times by a fly or any total. They also cook extremely quickly, we were order 3 of the people who walked up and within 5-10 minutes all three groups with 2 people each had their tacos and were eating. Overall I’d say 4.65/5 because fast good food is great the tables could use a decent clean but not bad (not grimy, sticky, etc)."

The tacos are small enough that you can try them all if you’re up for it.

With a mouthwatering menu of Mexico City-style street tacos (the ideal size for gobbling in two or three bites), Cuantos Tacos doesn’t hold back when it comes to exacting seasoning, meaty ingredients, and classic Mexican flavors. Popular favorites like barbacoa, brisket, and carnitas tacos are must-haves, but many a local taco connoisseur has found themselves seduced by Cuantos Tacos’ perhaps unfamiliar yet tantalizing tacos featuring delicacies like pork stomach (buche), Mexican chorizo (longaniza), and beef cheek (cachete), and rightfully so. Every dish on this small but delightful menu (which also includes excellent quesadillas and traditional nixtamalized corn tortillas) is worth devouring.
The Austin Taco Trail
Since September 2019, Cuantos Tacos has set the mark for Mexico City street-stall-style tacos sold from Austin trucks (watch our “On the Taco Trail” video with Cuantos here). First, it did so from a converted 1963 Ford Step Van, painted yellow, next to an auto shop. Then it moved to Arbor Food Park, where it continued serving traditional tacos of suadero, luscious and subtle lengua (see “Mini” in the Tacopedia), longaniza (an aged chorizo), and more from a chorizera (think a large smooth-edged Bundt pan with a shallow trough and a wide convex center tower; the fillings get cooked in lard in the concave channel).
23 Best Tacos in Austin
If you’re looking for authentic, no frills, but the highest quality Mexico City-style street tacos, Cuantos Tacos is a home run. These two-to-three bite gems are filled with only the classics—al pastor, suadero, carnitas, barbacoa, and buche (pork stomach – don’t knock it until you try it). Every single taco we’ve tried here has been juicy, salty, and packed full of flavor with just the right amount of grease like any worthwhile taco should have (just add a squirt of lime to cut that richness, it all works out in the end).
