Reviews Summary

Comedor is lauded for its exceptional modern Mexican cuisine and inventive flavors, with many diners highlighting the signature bone marrow tacos as a standout dish. The service is frequently praised for being attentive, warm, and knowledgeable, contributing to a sophisticated yet welcoming atmosphere. While most reviews are glowing, some guests note that portion sizes are smaller and the price point is higher, emphasizing that it's an experience focused on quality over quantity.

"I visited Comedor for the first time last night and was incredibly impressed from start to finish. Despite arriving about 20 minutes late for my reservation, the host team was gracious and accommodating, quickly finding a table and ensuring my evening started off right.

I began with the Beet Happening mocktail—refreshing, subtly sweet with a healthy twist and just the right amount of kick. It set the perfect tone for the rest of the meal. For starters, I tried the bone marrow tacos, Comedor’s signature dish, and they were nothing short of exceptional—rich, flavorful, and easily my favorite of the night.

I also enjoyed the crudo and queso fundido, followed by a beautifully cooked NY strip paired with a glass of Italian wine that complemented the steak perfectly. Though I didn’t have room for dessert, the general manager personally stopped by to check in, which added a thoughtful touch to the experience.

The service, atmosphere, and attention to detail at Comedor truly set it apart. I’ll definitely be returning soon. Thank you Adrian."

"A fantastic dining experience with exceptional service. As soon as you walk in you are welcomed by the servers, bartenders and even the managers. The food was beyond anything I expected. The bone marrow tacos are to die for and everything else was just as good. Shout-out to Blake our server who ensured we selected the best dishes for our night out. Also, get the tiramasa. Best thing I have ever eaten."

Sophia Scarlett

"Absolutely amazing restaurant. Food and service included. Probably one of the highlights of our trip to Austin.

Bone marrow tacos were out of this world. We appreciated that they also had non-alcoholic mocktails that were well thought.

Will absolutely be making a return trip my next time to Austin"

The Best New Restaurants in Texas for 2020

Leaning back against the polished-walnut banquette in Comedor’s soulful courtyard, I idly reached for the last bit of blue-corn quesadilla lavished with Oaxaca cheese and pearly huitlacoche corn fungus, a nibble to enjoy with my tamarind mezcal cocktail. The rays of the setting sun reflected off the soaring glass facade to my left, lingered on the feathery paloverde trees and the barrel cacti, and fell softly on the hundred-year-old brick wall to my right. A waiter arrived to announce, “Your table is ready.” My friends and I walked into a room that seemed to magically expand as our gaze was drawn upward through broad clerestory windows.

Of course, an Austin taco ranking is going to have a little bling. Topping the list at $52, the bone marrow tacos at this award-winning downtown restaurant are indeed pricey, but a single order will net about seven or eight tacos. Beef bones are brined for 48 hours, roasted, then caramelized with brown sugar before being served on a bed of local kale sauteed in smoked butter.
