What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Gilchrist Restaurant is a beloved local spot praised for its delicious breakfast and lunch fare, friendly service, and scenic harbor views. Many highlight the famous blueberry hotcakes and home fries as standout dishes. While generally well-regarded, some reviews mention occasional service lapses or inconsistent food quality, such as greasy fish and chips.
"Everything was wonderful. Loved the location. Came for lunch right by the aquarium in town. Very clean and felt like home. Ate lunch outside beautiful day for it. Would visit again when at the casinos. Or boat cruise. Only thing I didn’t like was the fish and chips were very greasy for like taste but everything else was on point."
Chris Madarro
"Big disappointment. The waiter did not bring us what we asked for and forgot about it. The food was so unpleasant and blend, we could not even finish it. French toast was saggy and not pleasant to eat.
We also had to wait to be seated for 30 min.
I think this place is “an emperor with no clothes”. The only great thing about this place was its location right on the water. That’s all. This place needs to step up their game!
We would not come back."
Kosta Rica
"The breakfast food was good, with nice portions, and they know how to make a perfect over-easy egg nice and white, waitresses were nice but to get everything we needed we had to flag 3 different ones down and the cashier for refills. Nice little place right on the water. Prices were slightly higher but we were on the water and close to casinos!"

Tuck in for a steaming plate of hotcakes from the Gilchrist location in Gardner’s Basin (there are several others in South Jersey). Michael Barham, who founded Gilchrist with his mother, Denise Stamat, says she created their signature crepe-like hotcakes by thinning out the batter so they would cook faster to accommodate more hungry guests. Now, kids and adults alike devour them by the stack.
