Reviews Summary

The General Muir is praised for its upscale take on Jewish deli classics, with particular acclaim for its pastrami, bagels, and vegetarian options. While many highlight the delicious food and appealing ambiance, some find the prices high for the type of cuisine, and a few reviewers have mentioned service inconsistencies and occasional food quality issues.

"The food was delicious, and the service was amazing--our server, Sosa, was an absolute sweetheart and took great care of us! We had the roast chicken, NY strip steak, and strawberry mascarpone cheese cake. All of it was great, and we also got some cookies and matzah ball soup to-go so we could try them later. By the end of the meal, we were already talking about coming back next week to try more things on the menu. Looking forward to it!"

Karissa Mehr

"Naya was our server and she was amazing! The food was very good, the pastrami is delicious. I only removed one star because… it is way too pricey for the type of food. The atmosphere is great, the place is beautiful and all but could definitely be a bit cheaper. Overall had a nice brunch tho"

Loren Rodrigues

"I've been wanting to try this restaurant forever because there is so much hype and they got Michelin recognition. My food was like a 3.5. The food came out quickly. I had the East Side Platter and the Nova and Gravalox were wonderfully not overly salted. I didn't really care for the Smoked Trout Spead and I've had several smoked fish spreads. The biggest issue was my bagels. They didn't taste fresh or amazing. I was expecting really great bagels from a Jewish Restaurant with a Michelin Recommendation.

My service was woefully lacking and staffing was not understaffed. My server basically went missing and I had to ask another server for bill.

Ambiance was top notch.

I might return and try the Rye Bread and Reuben."

The Best Brunch in Atlanta

At the General Muir in Emory Point, the owners' original hope was to create a modern American restaurant anchored by delicatessen traditions—but also not limited by them. (The restaurant is named for the refugee transport ship that brought co-owner Jennifer Johnson's mother and grandparents to this country after WWII.) Under chef-partner Todd Ginsberg’s leadership, it would seem they’ve met that goal. The pastrami is cured and smoked in-house, bagels are kettle-boiled and hand-rolled, and all breads are house-made next door.

Few things are more satisfying than sinking your teeth into the Avenue A, which is a bagel topped with cream cheese, smoked salmon, grapefruit, red onion, and avocado. If that’s not your jam, then maybe a Pastrami Sandwich on house-baked rye bread or Matzoh Ball Soup is up your alley. Either way, there’s something for everyone at this Southern deli mainstay.

75 Best Restaurants in Atlanta

From breakfast to dinner, Todd Ginsberg’s loving ode to the classic Jewish deli does many things—all of them well. Start with compact New York–style bagels that strike a balance between nostalgic and slightly dressed-up: On an open-faced sandwich called the Avenue A, for instance, chunks of grapefruit and avocado offer a fresh and very pretty addition to the tried-and-true combo of nova smoked salmon, red onion, and dill. Towering sandwiches make hearty lunches—whether you choose a corned-beef Reuben or a beguiling vegetarian version, made with thinly sliced smoked beets—and there’s something for the in-between times, too, in a bakery and coffee bar that features black-and-white cookies, rugelach, and much more.
