This Summerhill kitchen does some really interesting things on its always-changing menu. So while you’ll fall in love with dishes like the Tajin-heavy strawberry sambal chicken and karnatzlach sausage doused with a red pea mapo sauce, you’ll likely never see them again. But that’s more reason to return.

They are Antico Pizza Napoletana, Arepa Mia, Banshee, Bomb Biscuit Co., The Busy Bee, Estrellita, Fishmonger, Heirloom Market BBQ, and Little Bear.

Nearly 40 other local spots brought home Michelin designations, with the Young Chef Award going to Jarrett Stieber of Little Bear and the Outstanding Service Award lauding Neal McCarthy and the front-of-house team at Miller Union. The Chastain earned both a Green Star—an award celebrating sustainable restaurant practices—and the Sommelier Award (presented to Juan Fernando Cortes). BoccaLupo earned an accolade not for its renowned pasta but for Exceptional Cocktails, given to Jason Furst and the bar team.

Little Bear, located in Atlanta’s Summerhill neighborhood, is a cozy neighborhood bistro offering elevated comfort food in a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. Chef Jarrett Stieber, owner of Michelin Bib Gourmand Little Bear, announced in an email this week to regulars and longtime supporters that the Summerhill restaurant will begin serving dinner on Monday evenings, starting Sept. 29. The restaurant is currently open Wednesday through Sunday. Adding Monday will allow Little Bear to open for industry workers who typically have the day off.

Little Bear offers an intimate and eclectic dining experience for more adventurous eaters. Awarded Bib Gourmand for good quality, good value cooking by the Michelin Guide, Little Bear offers an ever-evolving menu centered around local produce grown on small farms nearby. You can clue in to their latest dishes by viewing their Instagram, but they don’t hold staples on their menu.

Nothing is serious at this 30-seat bistro in Summerhill where you can expect the wildly unexpected. For the last decade, first as a pop-up in 2014 and then a full-fledged restaurant weeks before the pandemic shutdown, Little Bear has been know to have one of Atlanta’s most whimsical menus. It requires a special chef to not take themselves seriously yet still cook excellent fare.

Little Bear is a cozy neighborhood eatery that offers a seasonal menu and a great drink selection. Its chef and owner Jarrett Stieber has earned accolades the likes of the “Zagat National 30 Under 30 Award”, and a mention in the StarChefs of Atlanta in 2023. Steiber was also a semifinalist in the James Beard Awards for the title “Best Chef: Southeast” (via Tasting Collective).

Little Bear is a comfortable and colorful cafe that offers good food without pretentiousness. Recently reopened after offering only take out, the restaurant serves what chef Jarrett Stieber describes as “Michelin Tire dining” and “regular dinners.” The menu is playful with dishes described as Jewish-ish/Sichuan-ish cooking. The epitome of a quaint neighborhood restaurant, Little Bear serves up creative dishes with a focus on hyperlocal sourcing, as well as small-production wine and spirits, in a casual-cool atmosphere. And due to its commitment to sourcing locally, the Summerhill eatery constantly keeps diners on their toes with menu additions and changes almost daily.

Little Bear is a fantastic new addition to the special occasion dining spots in Atlanta. My favorite Atlanta bloggers kept raving about this spot so of course I had to go try it for my birthday last year. Their menu changes frequently based on the season and the fresh ingredients they get locally.

Summerhill’s Little Bear has an “I know this great little place” vibe. It eschews formal, stuffy dining for a more laid-back experience, with charming energy. The tiny space clearly is designed for couples.
