With a food menu inspired by a range of cultures, from Italian to Native American, and a cocktail menu directed by some of Atlanta’s best barkeeps, this boutique eatery brings a level of sophistication to an otherwise pub-heavy scene. Rose gold pendant lights and rich blue hues, which tint the heavy velvet drapes separating the bar from the small dining area, give the place a serious bent, but the mini dinosaur figurines tucked away in unexpected spots let you know it’s fine to relax and “enjoy yourself”—and a pink neon lighted sign mounted against a hallway wall encourages visitors to do just that.

A place named after a wailing female spirit doesn’t exactly “scream” romance. But innovative dishes, snazzy lighting, and dark blue velvet draperies that divide the dining area make Banshee the most upscale place in EAV. And menu items like the sweet potato agnolotti with tender lamb will make you forget you're in the super casual neighborhood.

Your humble correspondent once witnessed the following scene on the dim-lit patio here: a diner enjoying a first-course salad (strawberries, cucumber, fennel, yogurt, and sumac, with briny little chunks of olive scattered around) so immensely that, when it came time to order the second course, she just opted for another plate of the same damn thing. In eclectic EAV, Banshee remains sui generis: warm, funky, sophisticated, and ever-changing, with chef Nolan Wynn spinning seasonal produce into culinary gold—Parisian gnocchi with lamb merguez and pea pesto, grilled pork with glazed eggplant, peach kosho, and miso vinaigrette. The quality of the food (and creativity of the cocktails) is one unchanging element; the other is a starter of pepperoni butter, served to diners with frybread but so popular that the restaurant now sells it by the pint.

One of East Atlanta Village’s most written about restaurants – and for good reason – Banshee chef and partner Nolan Wynn has been James Beard Recognized for this upscale restaurant in a relaxed atmosphere. If you haven’t had the pepperoni butter, it’s what they may be most famous for, but every dish on the menu is worth trying. The cocktails are as inventive as the food and the bar is open late, so it’s worth heading for a night out even if you’ve already had your dinner!

Opened by partners Peter Chuala, Nolan Wynn, Katie McDonald and Faielle Bolzan Stocco, Banshee boasts a cocktail-driven bar that also flaunts a fleet of local beers and a diverse selection of wine. On Friday and Saturday nights, the hot spot turns into the perfect place to enjoy music after-hours.
