The home and birthing place of beers distributed only in the Pacific Northwest and crafted locally in Astoria, Fort George Brewery is known for its seasonal beers and hearty pub fare. Established in 2017 on the grounds of an autohouse from 1921, Fort George Brewery is a company passionate about sustainability and locally sourced ingredients, in addition to their attention to good beer. Fort George Brewery is divided into three areas: wood-fired pizza upstairs, public house offerings downstairs, and their Lovell Taproom is open with limited hours.

Consisting of three separate bars and restaurants, the Fort George downtown complex can be confusing to the uninitiated. What was originally a small brewpub has grown to include a taproom and event space, a wood-fired pizza restaurant upstairs, and new for Covid, an outdoor patio area complete with a custom fire pit. While the pizza upstairs is crispy and unctuous and the Lovell Taproom warm and inviting, we are here for what I consider to be a perfect pub burger located in the original downstairs brewpub.

Grab some wood-fired pizza and seasonal ale for lunch at Fort George Brewery + Public House, less than 2 miles east, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of downtown Astoria and the waterfront from the top-floor dining room. Make a reservation to dine in, or call in to pick up and enjoy from the comfort of your own riverfront balcony. Post-meal, consider taking a much-deserved afternoon of indulgence at the hotel’s spa — or reserve a time slot for the Finnish sauna, mineral hot tub or exercise room.

I rolled my heavily loaded touring bike to the nearest, Fort George, and locked it alongside the custom-built fixies parked in the gardens of its converted warehouse. I had missed a tour of the brewery (Saturdays and Sundays, 1pm and 4pm), but made up for that in its 19-tap taproom. Named after the brewery and pub at the centre of Astoria’s original, 19th century settlement, Fort George now boasts its own block of hipster indulgences, including an artisan pizza restaurant and live music venue.

For over two decades, Fort George Brewery has dedicated the grayest, drizzliest month of the year to the darkest, smoothest and most soul-warming of beers: stouts. Sadly, the annual Festival of the Dark Arts, which stuffs Astoria’s brewery blocks with hundreds of dark beer fanatics for one Saturday in February, is going dark (pun somewhat intended) for the second straight year due to the pandemic. But that doesn’t mean the brewery is simply dumping all its surplus stouts into the sewer.

Founded in 2007 on the site of the original Astoria settlement for which it’s named, Fort George — now Astoria’s largest craft brewery — quickly outgrew its initial eight-barrel brewing system, triggering a series of expansions. The old brewhouse is now used mainly for small-batch and barrel-aged beers. The Lovell Taproom, named for a family-owned car dealership that filled the building for decades, offers seating mere feet from the brewing tanks, plus live music on Sunday nights.

We recommend grabbing dinner at Fort George Brewing, which offers a classic Pacific Northwest brewery experience in a bight and modern building. Fort George brews all of their own beer in downtown Astoria, and has a delicious dinner menu with options for vegans, vegetarians, and meat lovers alike!. For dinner we shared a flight of beers, the Isotope vegan chicken sandwich, and poutine covered in wild mushroom gravy.

Dating back to 2007, Fort George offers a wide assortment of excellent beers out of a converted 1920s auto garage. Enticing locals and visitors with strong pours of hazy IPAs and award-winning ales, the vibe at this Oregon coast brewery is hard to beat. Thankfully, there's plenty of outdoor and indoor seating, so your chances of snagging a table are favorable, swing by to kick off a great day exploring Astoria.

That’s the approach taken by Fort George Brewery in Astoria, and even if you don’t have tickets to the sold-out Festival of Dark Arts on Saturday, Feb. 18, the brewery celebrates Stout Month throughout February. As the brewery says, “That’s 28 days of the year dedicated to roasted malt, adjuncts, barrels and black rings on the bar top. Taste over a dozen small-batch, one-time releases throughout the month.

Fort George Brewery (www.fortgeorgebrewery.com): The first night we ate at the Fort George Brewery, located in the historic Fort George Building, and had some tasty burgers. We also heard that the pizza offered on the floor above was great since the folks on the table next to us in the brewery had pizza and then burgers. Besides the indoor seating, they have great outdoor seating depending on the weather.

Packy works full time off the farm at Fort George Brewery in Astoria, Oregon, but generously spends much of his spare time mowing, tilling, building, troubleshooting and fixing the many things that need fixing on a small farm. He also wrangles chickens and collects eggs, is a renowned cat-whisperer, talks to the bees, and truly enjoys taking engines apart and putting them back together again.

I ended my day in Astoria at Fort George Brewery — sipping on a beer. Fortunately, ending my day in a brewery does not happen quite as often as beginning my day in a coffee shop, but it seemed like the perfect way to relax in the midst of the early sunset. Fort George Brewery, located just a block away from Astoria’s main street, crafts its own beers right beside its warmly lit taproom.

Fort George is home to two floors of fun, as well as plenty of must-try locally brewed beers. Upstairs, you can order from an extensive pizza menu; you can’t go wrong with the Cherry Bomb – it’s absolutely mouthwatering (and I say this as a native New Yorker and huge pizza snob). The downstairs area consists of a taproom, public house, and outdoor seating area – very biergarten-y.

Fort George Brewery occupies an enormous vintage building, offering a taproom, a downstairs pub, and an upstairs pizza restaurant; the real fun happens on the seasonal Beer Pier, where you can sip a lager and watch the ships go by. The oldest brewery in town is the airy Astoria Brewing Company, while newer options include Buoy Beer, Obelisk Beer Co., and Reach Break Brewing.

Fort George is the result of a good business taking over a historic space and using it as a means to revitalize a community. The patio/courtyard space is regularly filled with live music and events, and Fort George has built itself as a destination just as much as its home in Astoria. Their 3-Way IPA collaboration series is something IPA drinkers look forward to each summer.

Check out the live music schedule at Fort George Brewery and Pub (just blocks from the Rose River Inn Bed and Breakfast). And order a pint at Buoy Beer Co., which is right on a pier. You can snag a table that overlooks the Columbia River, but even if you don’t get a primo seat, you can check out the heavyweight sea lions resting below the building through the glass floor.

We next checked out the largest brewery founded in Astoria, Fort George, which is a must visit. With two floors of dining and bars, plus their Lovell Taproom right next door, it’s clear that they’re doing something right. Known for their phenomenal variety of beers, friendly staff and their attention to detail, Fort George is making some of the best beer in the country.

During the war, the English took over and renamed it Fort George hence the name of the brewery. From a small pub and brewery, it has grown into a 30-barrel brewhouse encompassing 3 restaurants, a taproom with games and a cannery for the beer. You can sample one of the 40 different types of beer while enjoying the views of the Columbia River and hills of Washington.

Not many breweries take up an entire city block like Fort George Brewery. The brewery and public house sit inside a historic building built in 1924 on about the same location as the original Fort Astoria, known to locals as Fort George. It has become an icon of Astoria, a place for friends to gather, poets to share, and of course, there’s the incredible beer.

In 2013, “the Fort” expanded its pub to a second floor overlooking downtown and the Columbia River, making it arguably one of the most scenic breweries in Oregon.

The final place I checked out in Astoria was Fort George Brewery. Astoria was founded as a fort which switched names repeatedly between Fort Astoria, as it was possessed by the Americans, and Fort George as it was taken by the British. Fort George therefore felt like a welcome home… This brewery is located in downtown Astoria.

Other top choices include Fort George, which looks out at the river and downtown and might be Oregon's most scenic pub, and Astoria Brewing Company, the oldest craft brewery in town. If you're a stout fan, put Astoria on your calendar for February, when Fort George hosts the Festival of Dark Arts, featuring 80 unique stouts.

Living on the very same earth the original Fort Astoria occupied, it is quite literally the origin of Western life on the Pacific Coast. Fort George opened its doors to Astoria as both a brewery and a public house, and that desire to serve the community continues to this day. The brewers and pub staff here share a common goal, to create a welcoming space where anyone in town can pull up a stool and enjoy a pint and a bite to eat.

Known for wood-fired pizza and brews with names like Atomic Juke Box and Vortex IPA, Fort George Brewery is an ideal place to rest after an active day in Astoria. Eating here is one of my favorite fun things to do in Astoria. You can enjoy cider, soft drinks, and wine with your pizza or salad.

One place we loved was the Fort George Brewery and its upstairs Pizzeria. They had a unique way to access the second floor. The building is built into a hill, so the access to the second floor is from a side street that goes up the hill, where they have built a ramp leading to the pizzeria.

You can’t visit Astoria without stopping in somewhere for a pint, and there’s really no better spot to do this than Fort George. Fort George is undoubtedly one of the most popular breweries at the Oregon coast, but not without reason. It’s the largest brewery in Astoria and also the best.

Fort George Brewery has three locations, all in one city block!. The pub is the perfect space to try their hoppy and hazy IPAs and burgers, and you’ll find a creative wood-fired pizza menu upstairs. Or head to Buoy Beer Company for its light and tasty brews and seafood-focused pub grub.

You can drop down to 15th and Duane and stop in at the Fort George Brewery and Public House for a locally-brewed pint and a bite to eat. Then return to Exchange, and proceed west for two blocks. At 16th and Exchange is Astoria's Heritage Museum, once the City Hall.

Fort George Brewery crafts original beers and ciders and only distributes in the northwest. I gave their pear cider a try, and loved it. Crisp and light, it’s was a the perfect dinner complement and gave this non-beer drinker a taste of local brewery craftsmanship.

Try the Fort George Brewery in a renovated auto repair shop, or Astoria Brewing Company near the waterfront. The South Bay Wild Fish House in downtown Astoria serves scrumptious seafood, or indulge in some old school Italian at Fede Trattoria on Astoria's Pier 12.

Fort George is definitely a place to check out while in Astoria. Not only for the crafted beers, but also for delicious food!. Upstairs in the building they specialize in pizza and have a separate menu for their wood-fired pizza, salads, soups and small plates.

Fort George was my destination but I popped into Merry Time when I walked past. It felt right to start my counterproductive day drinking with a bloody mary. Inside was a bit kitchsy, with several TVs for sports and ample games – pinball, pool, video poker.

And yes, it should matter even to the rest of you who have never been through the front doors of Fort George Brewery, over the seemingly never-ending Astoria-Megler Bridge spanning the Columbia, or up any of the 164 steps to the top of the Astoria Column.

Grabbing a beer is always fun, but grabbing a beer with a view is even better. The Fort George Brewery has two levels that serve the same beer but different foods on each level with indoor and outdoor seating at both. Dogs are welcome on both patios.

Astoria is quickly gaining a reputation for brewing some outstanding beers with Fort George Brewing leading the charge. If you show up on a weekend day in the summer you can expect some long waits to get into their pub or upstairs pizza lounge.

Enjoy fresh seafood at Silver Salmon Grille, craft beers at Buoy Beer Company and Fort George Brewery, and fine dining at Bridgewater Bistro. Each restaurant offers a unique taste of the local flavor, ensuring a memorable culinary experience.

Probably the most popular is Fort George Brewery, but you’ll also enjoy Buoy Beer Company. Not only is the beer and grub delicious, but there’s also a neat glass section of floor in the brewpub where you can see sea lions beneath the pier.

Visit this brewery and public house to relax and chill with friends or simply take in the ambiance. While you can certainly pay to eat and enjoy fine beer, you can also simply socialize and have a great time. with your loved ones.

Fort George Brewery is one of the most well-known breweries in town and nestled in the city’s historic district. Known for great beer and a tantalizing selection of wood fired pizzas, this large brewery is well worth a stop.

Fort George Brewery and Public House operates from within Fort Astoria which marks the site of the first American establishment on the west coast. The brewery specializes in beers and offers more than 40 different varietals.

I’ve had the opportunity to eat with clients here and really thought the brew pub food was great. The place is comfortable and the service decent enough. I haven’t eaten here a ton, but everything I have tried I’d eat again.

When it comes to restaurants in Astoria, this one is in an old tire factory which gives it such a cool vibe. Not to mention the outdoor seating and rooftop seating. Being a brewery, they do sell beer.

Fort George Brewery has a great rooftop patio and delicious pizza. Astoria Brewing, Astoria’s first brewery since Prohibition, is on the Riverwalk Trail and has a generous tap list.

Known for its nationally recognized beers like the Vortex IPA, this two-story brewery has indoor and outdoor seating, a rooftop with sweeping views, and even a connected café.

Like really great beer, from Buoy and Fort George in Astoria proper, and wild AF natural yeast experimentalists De Garde just a few miles down the coast in Tillamook.
