Launched for the 2023-2024 winter season, West End Social is a totally new addition to the Aspen Meadows experience. Here, chef de cuisine Rachel Saxton and executive pastry chef Sara Figueiredo take Colorado ingredients through an international tour of flavors: wagyu tartare spiked with Gochujang, bison burger patties stuffed into hearty pretzel rolls, and fresh pasta made by hand daily. Even the après-ski experience here, which features an enviable outdoor area with unobstructed views of the Rockies, has been refreshed to make it more competitive with offerings in Aspen.

Offering 270-degree views of Aspen’s mountains, the newly redesigned and re-concepted eatery is a true feast for the senses. The menu features Colorado-inspired fare like wagyu tartare with gochujang, kumquat and sesame; house-made ricotta with wild mushrooms and roots; and pumpkin tortellini with chestnut, delicata squash, sage and almond.

Nestled within Aspen Meadows Resort, a 98-all-suite resort, West End Social is Aspen’s newest gathering spot offering scenic views and mountain charm. Grab a table next to the floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy American fare for brunch or dinner with a solid apres-ski menu (think truffle fries, caviar bumps and charcuterie with house-made preserves) to fill you up after carving up the mountain. For libations, Martini Monday runs every week from 2 to 9 p.m.

Aspen Meadows Resort hosted its third annual Juneteenth Celebration in the afternoon at West End Social with music from DJ Doughboy and a brunch-inspired menu. Sponsored by the award-winning Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, which honors the world’s first-known African American master distiller, Nearest Green, the event was also supported by Equiano Rum, Sorel Hibiscus Liqueur, LS Cream Liqueur, and Hella Cocktail Co. — all of which are minority-owned.

Aspen’s best kept secret, West End Social, formerly known as Plato’s, is located in the Aspen Institute and has possibly one of the best views in town. Surrounded by glass windows this dining room has “270-degree views” which includes Highland’s ski area. “The large outdoor deck is a perfect place for après drinks and dining.

As a person who travels a lot, it is hard to find gluten-free without any cross contamination in most restaurants. I even have trouble at restaurants that have gluten-free options.

Head to one of my favorite spots for lunch with a view a Plato’s Restaurant on the Aspen Meadows Resort property. This was perfect for us because we got to shower and freshen up after our hike, followed by a delicious charcuterie board and lunch with a jaw-dropping landscape for the patio backdrop.

The West End is a quaint community known for canopied streets, historic houses, and beautiful summer gardens. With all of its nature, it’s difficult to believe that the community sprung from Aspen’s mining days. The neighborhood exudes a quiet and relaxing atmosphere reminiscent of its old glory.

Plato’s Restaurant at Aspen Meadows Resort is now West End Social. I always loved eating there before or after a Music Festival or an Aspen Institute event. The views are outstanding.
