Reviews Summary

French Broad Chocolate Lounge is celebrated for its exceptional 'bean to bar' chocolate and decadent desserts. Visitors rave about the rich flavors of their cakes, ice cream, and hot chocolate. While many praise the quality and unique offerings, some note that the experience can feel less personal due to counter service and self-busing tables, and prices for individual truffles are considered high by some.

"So much chocolate, so very decadent! The chocolate cake was so moist and great. The chocolate truffle drink was very rich and a little harder to drink than I expected. The truffle torte was decent, we found out we were not a fan of cardamom which it has in it.
The triple layer mouse was divine!
We wanted to try all the things since coming from out of town here for our first time."

Jeremy “ButterBean” Kelly

"We dropped in while waiting for our LaZoom Bus Tour, and our friends insisted it was a must-visit for chocolate lovers—and they were right! You order at the counter, and there’s comfortable table seating inside to enjoy your treats.

The selection of chocolates was impressive, and everything looked delicious. They also had some fun branded swag available for purchase, which made great souvenirs. A great little stop to satisfy your sweet tooth while exploring Asheville!"

Dana Hood

"A bit overrated. We had the chocolate cake, which was fine but not particularly impressive. The staff was nice but there isn’t a very strong sense of customer service since you order at the counter and bus your own table. Truffles are incredibly over-priced at $3 a piece."

French Broad Chocolate Lounge—so popular it had to move to this much-larger location on Pack Square (though the line is still sometimes out the door)—makes its own delicious chocolate candy, but that's just the start. As the name suggests, it's also a lounge, where you can sit in comfort and enjoy not only truffles and other premium chocolates but also ice cream, cookies, brownies, various kinds of hot and cold chocolate drinks, and specialty coffees and teas. Adjoining is the grab-and-go Chocolate Boutique.

About Asheville

Where To Find The Very Best Ice Cream In Asheville

The main claim to fame of the French Broad Chocolate Lounge is the idea of “bean to bar” chocolate, a chocolate procuring and creation process where the company has formed positive relationships with farmers to make sure that the raw ingredients in every chocolate confection are both high quality and flavorful, ethically produced and top-notch for their variety. However, the French Broad Chocolate Lounge serves more than bars and bonbons, with a wide array of cakes, cookies, and, yes, ice cream available. They opt for grass-fed milk and cage-free eggs, as well as vegan ice cream made with delicious coconut milk.
