Showstopping and locally sourced is the mantra at Tent City Taphouse. The gastropub opened during the pandemic, no less, but is already making a name for itself as the to-go for hard-to-find craft beers from all over Alaska. Start with the caesar salad, which incorporates smoked salmon in the dressing, or the short rib braised poutine with house-made duck fat fries.

I only ended up at Tent City Taphouse by chance; I was invited to a happy hour event there during my work conference in September 2024 before dashing off to another small group dinner at Ginger later in the evening. Despite the short visit, I was totally impressed and would gladly return: all of the appetizers were fantastic, and their beer list is top-notch. (If memory serves, I think it was around 28 beers in total, which must make it among the top spots for variety in the Anchorage area!) Tent City Taphouse is a nice casual spot with great food and great beer – what more do you need?

They recently hosted a Taste of the North five-course dinner in collaboration with 49th State Brewing; pairings included Neon Antler DIPA served with a truffle honey beet salad and Cabin Fever Spiced Imperial Brown served with crème brulée cheesecake.

Amazing burgers and the gluten-free buns taste really good, not crumbly or dry at all. You get plenty of fries as a side, though you really need to like garlic for the garlic and cilantro fries because they put in a lot. The service was great and patiently answered all questions concerning their handling of allergies.
