Reviews Summary

Tent City Taphouse is a modern gastropub celebrated for its diverse Alaskan craft beer selection and creative menu. Diners frequently praise standout dishes like the garlic fries, gluten-free fish and chips, and uniquely satisfying chicken and waffles. The service is generally noted as friendly and knowledgeable, contributing to a positive atmosphere. While most experiences are excellent, some reviews mention inconsistencies in fries or dry burger buns, but overall, it's a highly recommended spot for both locals and visitors.

"We had an excellent meal here while on a pre-cruise tour. My salmon burger was outstanding. Tasty and fresh. It was just perfect. But even better were the garlic cilantro fries! I shared them with the couple sitting next to us and Ive made two lifelong friends! Thanks, Tent City! Worth a trip to Anchorage just for those! My cousin’s halibut was excellent. Tender and so juicy. Perfectly cooked and not greasy. Oh yea, the beers were great, too! Excellent, friendly service."

"Our tour guide was batting 1000 with his restaurant recs and this one was no different. Started with the duck fat fries and asked for them to be extra crispy!!!! Perfect and full of flavor!!! Main was their belgian waffle with chicken tenders and a scoop of pineapple-coconut ice cream!!! This is what heaven must be like!!! The ice cream paired beautifully with the chicken and waffle. Pure bliss!!! Service was excellent too despite the restaurant being crazy busy with all the tour groups!!"

Jason

"We did not have reservation but immediate seating. Order was taken quickly and food was served quickly. Not sure if the Pilsner was brewed there or not, but it was very good. Highly recommend. Cod was good/fresh and the batter was nice and thin. Lost a star because the fries had way too many ends & pieces. See pic."

What to Do in Achorage: Where to Stay, Eat, and Play

Showstopping and locally sourced is the mantra at Tent City Taphouse. The gastropub opened during the pandemic, no less, but is already making a name for itself as the to-go for hard-to-find craft beers from all over Alaska. Start with the caesar salad, which incorporates smoked salmon in the dressing, or the short rib braised poutine with house-made duck fat fries.

Where to Eat in Anchorage, Alaska: A Local's Guide to 30+ Places

I only ended up at Tent City Taphouse by chance; I was invited to a happy hour event there during my work conference in September 2024 before dashing off to another small group dinner at Ginger later in the evening. Despite the short visit, I was totally impressed and would gladly return: all of the appetizers were fantastic, and their beer list is top-notch. (If memory serves, I think it was around 28 beers in total, which must make it among the top spots for variety in the Anchorage area!) Tent City Taphouse is a nice casual spot with great food and great beer – what more do you need?

The 10 Best Vegetarian Gluten-Free Spots in Anchorage

Amazing burgers and the gluten-free buns taste really good, not crumbly or dry at all. You get plenty of fries as a side, though you really need to like garlic for the garlic and cilantro fries because they put in a lot. The service was great and patiently answered all questions concerning their handling of allergies.
