Reviews Summary
Glacier Brewhouse is celebrated for its outstanding Alaskan seafood, particularly the king crab and halibut, and its wide selection of house-brewed beers. The warm, rustic atmosphere with a fireplace adds to the inviting dining experience. While many praise the food and service, some find the portion sizes for certain dishes, like fish and chips, to be on the smaller side for the price, and the restaurant can get quite loud and busy.
"Must do restaurant. Went after Princess Cruise, we beat the crowd but it gets busy. Saturday so had the seafood scramble and it was outstanding! Cheesy grits was my side and also great. Co diner said seafood salad was excellent. Burger and pizza was also good. Didn't try any beers but all hose made. Try it!"
William Lynch (Bill)
"We visited this place twice during our trip to Anchorage, and honestly — it’s the best spot in all of Alaska!
The food is absolutely outstanding — the halibut is next-level delicious, perfectly cooked and fresh as it gets. The beer selection is on fire 🔥, and the crispy potatoes are simply amazing — the kind of side dish you actually remember!
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the staff is super friendly, and everything feels authentic Alaskan. It’s the kind of restaurant where you walk out smiling and already planning to come back.
I give it my highest recommendation. If you’re in Anchorage, don’t miss this place — it’s a must-visit!"

"Based on a trolley tour guide recommendation, we stopped in for lunch. An awesome beer selection and a full bar were a nice surprise. We sat at the bar and Heather provided excellent service. She was so pleasant and helpful with menu selections. We started with the calamari (steaks not rings); I had grilled salmon and husband chose shrimp & grits. There were no disappointments with any of our selections."

Guests should sample the king crab legs, the seafood chowder, and their self-proclaimed ‘world famous’ bread pudding – vanilla custard, apples, currants, and caramelized pecans in a Yukon Jack sauce.

The scent of hops permeates the cavernous, wood-beam BrewHouse, where at least a dozen beers are brewed on the premises. Locals mingle with visitors in this noisy, always-busy heart-of-town restaurant, and dinner selections range from chili-lime shrimp to fettuccine jambalaya and fresh seafood (in season). Summer reservations are recommended, even for lunch.

Anchorage's Breweries
Last, I tried their oatmeal stout - a deep, velvety brew served on nitro The flavors were somewhat subdued, but there was a nice oatyness that complimented the coffee and roasted flavors nicely This beer really comes into its own when it is aged in oak barrels formerly used to hold Jim Beam (before he escaped) The depth of flavor increases ten-fold, and there are notes of both the whiskey and a cherry-like fruitiness For best results, try the standard stout first, then the oak-agedIt should also be noted that the Brewhouse fare, while a bit expensive, is quite delicious, especially if you enjoy fresh seafood, and the service is excellent
A Local's Guide to Craft Beer in Anchorage, Alaska
Located downtown along 5 th Ave, this is one of the more upscale establishments in terms of breweries, so if you are looking for higher end seafood and steak dishes, Glacier Brewhouse does a decent job (though I would argue 49 th State gives them a good run for their money in terms of quality and lower cost). Their macadamia crusted Halibut is one of my favorites in season, as well as the Rockfish. They do a great job with the calamari at Glacier, and that is one of our go-to appetizers.

Downtown’s Glacier Brewhouse specializes in oak-aged English and American West-Coast style beers, 13 of them, from blondes to stouts. Beneath the floor of the Brewhouse is a “Wall of Wood,” composed of casks of special release beers that are conditioned in oak barrels once used to age wine and bourbon. The history of the oak imparts the “mother tongue” flavor characteristics, like vanilla and coconut, into these limited-edition brews.
