Reviews Summary

Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop is celebrated for its high-quality, artisan baked goods, including unique scones and delicious sandwiches, with many praising the fresh ingredients and taste. While the cozy atmosphere is a draw, some find the space cramped and seating uncomfortable. Service is efficient but can lack personal engagement, and pricing is considered a bit steep by some, though generally deemed worth it for the quality.

"This bakery truly delivers on its promise of quality. The pastries were incredibly fresh, and we loved that they use local organic flour and seasonal produce — you can really taste the difference!

We tried a scone that was absolutely delicious — not overly sweet, just the right balance, and baked to perfection. It’s clear that a lot of care goes into each item.

While it’s a little on the pricey side, the quality and ingredients make it well worth the treat. Highly recommend for anyone who appreciates thoughtfully made baked goods!"

"Atmosphere – 3 stars
The bakeshop has a cozy, rustic vibe but feels a bit cramped, especially when it’s busy—which seems to be most of the time. There are a few tables available, but I found the seating uncomfortable and the cleanliness lacking. There were noticeable crumbs on both the floor and tables, which took away from the overall experience.

Service – 3 stars
It’s a walk-up counter style setup, and while the staff was polite and moved fairly efficiently, there wasn’t much in terms of personal engagement. I asked if they had white milk, and they looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. After a bit of confusion, they finally figured out what I meant and told me I could get milk from the nearby coffee stand. Not rude, just a little unpolished.

Food – 4 stars
I got a ham and cheese sandwich that was pretty good—the bread was especially fresh. I also tried a chocolate chip cookie, which was really good. I added a blueberry crème cupcake to the mix—it was tasty, but a little hard to eat since it was chilled and the frosting was firm, almost brittle, and broke apart. Overall, the quality of the baked goods was solid, but the pricing felt a bit steep for what you get. Not sure if I’d go out of my way to return."

Honest Reviews

"Lovely place with very good baked goods. Very good bread, sandwiches, cupcakes, cakes, chowders, you name it. We enjoy everything, too bad we’re leaving town today…. Hopefully we can order online in the future The bakery connects with That Feeling Co, a coffee shop, Johnny’s Produce where you can buy produce or have a smoothie , and La Bodega the wine shop
Very convenient. Love this place"

Fire Island, in the heart of South Addition, one of Anchorage’s oldest neighborhoods, handcrafts an astonishingly delicious array of baked goods, breads, sandwiches, and savory delights that keep locals lining up for more. The bakery uses as much local produce as it can squeeze into its scones and muffins, offers interesting flavor combos, and serves up a tofu banh mi that is one of the finest tofu sandwiches known to man. Both of Fire Islands locations have a distinct neighborhood vibe, making them feel like a secret only you and select others are in on. Early each morning the bakers craft small batches of croissants, crusty breads, muffins, and scones, but the smell of the fresh baked goods permeates the building all day long. Bonus: their coffee is liquid lightning.

Where to Eat in Anchorage, Alaska: A Local's Guide to 30+ Places

As you may have noticed, my September 2024 trip was a bit of a research trip for restaurants in Anchorage – I made sure to visit many places I had never been before that others had recommended so I could add them to this list. Another such spot was Fire Island Rustic Bakeshop, which I have been recommended to many times and visited with my fellow Alaska blogger friend Jennie. We met for breakfast, and had to sample more than we could possibly eat in one sitting: she had the breakfast flatbread and a berry scone, while I had a gooey egg breakfast sandwich and a savory apple gruyere sage scone.
