Reviews Summary

Arctic Roadrunner is celebrated as an Alaskan landmark for its classic burgers, house-made onion pieces, and charming creek-side atmosphere. While many praise the juicy burgers and addictive sides, a few reviewers found the burgers too salty or the onion rings disappointing. The cash-only policy and potential for busy periods are points to note for diners seeking a seamless experience.

"The food and milkshakes were good! Attention to detail to make sure the order was correct was great. They put your milkshake in a cooler once made, until your order is ready. The restaurant was cool inside and had a nice view of the stream by the window, or you could sit outside by the stream. Just a note, as mentioned. Cash only!"

"I visited here twice during a week long stay in Anchorage. First I had a halibut sandwich with a huge unsweetened tea(😍 was thrilled to have fresh brewed unsweet tea) and on my 2nd visit I had a bacon burger. Both of the sandwiches were good. The burger was sizable, I finished the second half the next day. Service was faster than expected from the given times when ordering online. They were VERY busy, but the staff clearly functioned well. Getting in and out of the parking lot with a left turn (in or out) is dicey - beware. A bit loud inside during the brief time I was there. Maybe quieter at tables further from the entrance."

"This place is a Landmark in Anchorage. We’ve been coming here for decades. The atmosphere represents a lot of what Alaska is all about. It’s always great to look around at all the many pictures and other neat things. The food is consistently great too with lots of choices.. A must visit place for local folks and visitors alike. It is in a convenient location and not far from the airport."

The Best Burgers In Anchorage, Alaska

Eat at this burger joint to get a real feel for your surroundings and traditional Alaskan culture. The Arctic Roadrunner offers house-made burgers, shakes, and fries that are made with quality and care. The decor is very in tune with the state it’s housed in, wooden antlers and moose heads grace the walls of the cabin-like building with wood paneling and a stone fireplace.

Best Anchorage burgers? Here are our picks

Part time capsule, part Alaskan museum, part burger mecca, Arctic Roadrunner (5300 Old Seward Highway & 2477 Arctic Blvd.) looms large in the hearts and appetites of Anchorage burger lovers. Compared to the Alaskana on the wall, I'm a relative newcomer to the state, and even I have almost two decades of Roadrunner-related memories. I have fond, if hazy, memories of warm afternoons by the creek, sipping a blackberry milkshake while my daughters paddled after ducks and gulls, offering French fries and bits of burger bun.

More like 30 or 40 now, and while I still have a lot of friends there, and love having a burger at the Arctic Roadrunner or a steak and a flashlight at Club Paris, I honestly can't say that Anchorage is all that compelling as a tourist destination in of itself. As a hub for excursions - down Turnagain Arm to Portage, or north up to Hatcher Pass - terrific; and some of the in-town attractions like the Native Heritage Center or the museum are good... well, they're still 30 minutes from...
