But, considering the boys are with you I would take a close look at "The 49th State Brewing Company" (Top place to eat for lunch as well.) This restaurant has quite a menu with some domesticated wild game including Elk, Reindeer (caribou), Buffalo and Yak as well as many varieties of Alaska Seafood. Their restaurant is located on the bluff in the middle of downtown less than a block away from the big Anchorage Hilton high rise (high rise for Alaska that is) and two blocks away from the Captain Cook Hotel complex "The Cook". A few of their pizzas even include all of those items and are very good and highly rated.

Paying homage to Alaska’s induction to the U.S., 49th State Brewing launched in 2010 deep in the Alaskan interior near Denali National Park, brewing on a pilot system and repurposing any building materials they could find. But regular community events like their more seasonally appropriate Augtoberfest and annual Solstice Brewfest (and its beloved beer Solstice IPA) have made 49th State an Alaska favorite, and 2016 saw the opening of their Anchorage brewery and three-story restaurant and pub. “They have the best location in downtown Anchorage, with killer views from their deck in the summer,” says Fairbairn.

Whenever I offer custom Alaska travel advice, 49th State Brewing is the first place I recommend to everyone – because it has something to offer everyone and has among the best views in town. You see, 49th State Brewing (which actually started up in Healy, near Denali) took over a restaurant spot occupied by the Snow Goose when I was a kid growing up in the Anchorage area. The Snow Goose was a white tablecloth kind of place with insanely good views to the north – you could easily see Denali on a clear day.

Staying true to its origins, 49 th State Brewing delivers on its promise to deliver an authentic Alaskan environment. What started as a 3-bay bus barn is now a growing business serving craft beer and Bavarian food. Since the founders believe in sustainable living, the establishment’s interior has been repurposed in unique ways; a table carved out of a tree and a cement mixing pit at the center of the seating area.

Located along the waterfront downtown in what used to be the Snow Goose/Sleeping Lady Brewing Co building is 49th State Brewing out of Healy (you can still visit their original location in Healy if you are going to Denali National Park). They have some of the best views in town of Mt. Susitna, the Cook Inlet, and Denali from their outdoor decks. Not to mention their excellent beer and food selection.

One of our favorite breweries in Alaska, 49th State Brewing Company offers a gorgeous rooftop view of the city, live music, and amazing food. Their halibut collar is the best I’ve ever had!. Sean really enjoys the Alaska 8 Star Lager and I’m a big fan of the Blonde Eagle Ale.

For similarly beautiful views with a more relaxed vibe, check out the 49th State Brewing Co., downtown on Third Avenue, where you can pair your grilled salmon filet with a lemon cream sauce and a house-brewed IPA. Bonus points for grabbing a spot at the best deck in town.

We liked the atmosphere at the Healy location better, but the food at the Anchorage outpost of 49th State Brewing was still good. There aren’t tons of vegan options, but the main dishes offered are delicious. It’s worth a visit for their vegan chicken Philly cheesesteak.

The 49th Brewing Co., located on W 3rd, is also a down town bar. A new comer to the scene, it just opened in late 2016. But it’s already made a name for itself with an award winning beer and rooftop patio overlooking the Cook Inlet and Alaska Range.

If you’re a beer enthusiast, 49th State Brewing is a must-visit. This brewpub offers a wide selection of craft beers brewed on-site, including some unique, local flavors. Pair your beer with a delicious meal featuring locally sourced ingredients.

If you’re looking to dine with a view, but sure to visit the 49th State Brewing Co Restaurant. Overlooking the bay in downtown Anchorage, during the sunset hour it was one of my highlights in the city.
