Reviews Summary

Monroe's Restaurant is a beloved Albuquerque institution praised for its authentic New Mexican cuisine, generous portions, and reasonable prices. Many diners highlight the prompt and friendly 'open wait' service style and recommend dishes like seafood enchiladas and fresh guacamole. However, a few reviews mention inconsistent food quality and greasy dishes, and one reviewer noted concerns about the restaurant's location.

"First time visit. Wonderful experience. Great service from the staff as the have an “open wait” format, meaning any server or employee can and will help you. Flawless attention to detail. Food is excellent, portions are huge, atmosphere is classy, food was out so quickly. Started with the fresh made from scratch guacamole. Killer stuff. For the main course, I had the seafood enchiladas, wife had the cheese enchiladas. Complimentary sopapillas (sic) were fantastic. Prices are so reasonable. Raspberry sweet tea is great. Will definitely darken the doorway again in the future. Can’t go wrong here."

Travis Steele

"Dinner was fantastic tonight at Monroe's! My wife and her mother and I enjoyed the friendly staff that waited on us over such delicious New Mexican cuisine! Fabulous!"

David Dale

"I ordered a half of sheet of enchiladas. They were so greasy no one could eat them. The plates were full of grease. When I called and spoke to the manger he told me it was from the cheese. Take a good look at the phots. It was so bad no one could eat them. I was told I could get a credit for half of what I paid for it. No thanks.
This was a cater order."

Monroe’s is also known for its salsa, which is spicy, thick, chip-sticking and well worth the small surcharge. Desserts aren’t special, but the pineapple shakes and, of course, hot sopaipillas with honey are. Meanwhile, the friendly, capable servers always make you feel right at home, from the moment the joint opens for breakfast---featuring hash-brown-and-egg-stuffed burritos---to the last margarita call.
