Reviews Summary

Diners consistently praise 49th State Brewing for its delicious and unique food offerings, including adventurous choices like yak and buffalo, alongside a lively atmosphere and extensive beer selection. While many find the food exceptional and the ambiance fun, some mention that prices can be high and indoor seating lacks air conditioning during warm weather.

"Great place must stop. Beer was fantastic. Food was some of the best we've had in Alaska. We've been here for over a month. The buffalo meatloaf is a must. Do Nigel or server was a great young man. Nigel, our server was a great young man"

Rob Burkhart

"Food was pretty good but way overpriced, but that could simply be due to the area. It’s about 15-20min from Denali NP, has a great outdoor space (fire pit, darts, etc) and a large indoor space. However, no AC indoors which was quite uncomfortable to eat in especially after a long day of hiking. Ordered the halibut with fries and added 1 extra fish for $34, they weren’t very big and a bit dry. I’ve had fish and chips in NYC and it isn’t even this expensive. Also ordered yak burger ($34) which was good but the pretzel bread was hard and dry as well, not a fan.

Our server was friendly and attentive."

"Large portion, great atmosphere to hang with friends, and great spirit. The kids' menu had excellent choices for children."

A Local's Guide to 12 Great Restaurants

If you follow this blog at all, you already know that I recommend 49th State Brewing as my Best in Show restaurant in Anchorage – it’s truly my favorite place to eat in Alaska’s biggest city, which says a lot. 49th State Brewing actually started up in the Denali area, Healy to be specific, which is 10 miles north of the Nenana Canyon business district. Healy is a small community of actual locals – like, people who live in the area all year long, not just during the summer tourist season.

Your Complete Guide To An Epic 48 Hours In Denali National Park

After a long first day in the park, you’ll want to have a hearty meal so you can get a proper night’s sleep to do it all over again. The cozy lodge-like interior at 49th State Brewing, complete with fire pits and antler chandeliers, was the perfect spot to warm up and fill up. I personally opted for a crab filled grilled cheese and a flight of their house-made sodas — the most unique being the frontier spruce tip.

For starters, it’s the only brewpub restaurant here that serves Alaskan yak, in the form of a yak burger. Or tuck into the buffalo meatloaf, a specialty. Don’t miss the housemade Bavarian pretzel.
