Best Bits: one of the best bars in St Andrews for students, The Rule has a wide and diverse selection of beer, from the classics on draught to the rotating high-quality craft ales. Watching live sport here is excellent as well, with a spacious floor area and several wide flatscreen TVs. If you’re a beer garden fan, head out through the back of the pub to the large, well-stocked outdoor area behind The Rule.

While my passion for a good drink overflows, my wallet does not, and as a result I can’t reasonably judge these locations. BrewDog is new to town and reportedly has a good selection of beers (with only one of them being below £5 per pint), the Adamson has good cocktails apparently, and Rogue does Gin, but I refuse to go in out of respect for it being the final resting place of Drouthy Neighbours.

It’s the perfect place to go for drinks if you’re celebrating something and at the top of the list for places to go when your parents are paying. In what used to be the old Post Office on South Street, this London-like bar is spacious, has regular DJs, a little pretentious and that’s why it’s a great cocktail bar. The cocktails are delicious and the place feels like it belongs more in a city than little old St Andrews. Start and end your evening here if you fancy.

The Adamson “Founded in 2012 by Managing Director Julie Dalton and Director Graham Dalton, The Adamson occupies a historic site in the town. The property was originally home to the Adamson family in the early 1800s. Their eldest son, Dr. John, was a physician and pioneer photographer.
