What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Haar Restaurant is praised for its exceptional tasting menus and top-notch service, creating a memorable fine dining experience. Diners frequently highlight the exquisite seafood, particularly the lobster, and the knowledgeable staff who enhance the meal. However, some reviews mention potential inconsistencies with main courses and a perceived arrogance in service, alongside concerns about portion sizes for the price.
"My boyfriend and I came up to Scotland last month for our 3-year anniversary and visited Edinburgh for a night, followed by St Andrews for a night. He booked Haar for dinner for the pair of us and kept it a surprise until we arrived. All I can say is WOW!
The food was just divine with a mixture of fish and meat dishes that were bursting with flavour, and the staff couldn’t have done more for us (especially our maître d’, I sadly can’t remember her name but she was just exceptional and so friendly).
A truly special night that everyone should have the chance to experience."

"Fabulous dining experience in Haar last night.
Chose the tasting menu with paired classic wine tasting.
First three courses presented at the chefs table.
Each course was delicious, hard to pick a stand out as everything was so good but Arbroath Smokie in a tiny crisp Pastry tartlet was so delicious as was the crab with a bloody Mary gel.
A quirky message in a bottle revealed a map showing how local all the ingredients were.
Layer upon layer of complimentary flavours were present in each dish; beautifully presented by very knowledgeable staff. Service pace was just right, allowing time for each dish to be savoured.
Special mention for the Wagyu beef; it truly did melt in the mouth and Dean's deconstructed ban offensive pie in a nod to granny was a fun dish.
Exceptional dining experience, fabulous staff and surroundings in the heart of St Andrews, just perfect!"

"This place treated us terribly. We went in and I was immediately greatest by a visibly upset employee who stated he couldn't seat us but told us we could wait for the host. Once the host arrived she said that it would take 2 minutes to fix the table (please note the restaurant was empty). We waited patiently for 5-10 minutes when a European couple arrived (please keep in mind we are latino) they were instantly graded with a smile and quickly seated in the main dining area that was still empty. she approached me and told me that it was still going to be another four minutes for a table (again, the restaurant was still empty). at this point, I felt disrespected and sidelined simply because the color of my skin. I don’t know if it was a race thing, but I find it incredibly unfortunate on my first trip to Scotland. with that being said, there’s a beautiful restaurant right around the corner that was happy to sit us and serve us. avoid this place at all cost. being humiliated is not worth a $12 lobster roll."
