Martha Brown started The Forge Bakehouse in 2012 following a year studying at Nottinghamshire’s School of Artisan Food. It’s become a community hub and in the past five years, Martha’s tiny shop has grown into larger premises where you can buy a large range of sourdough, long-fermented bread and pastries. What’s on offer changes regularly – the loaves, ciabatta, baguettes and batards can cover anything from dark and dense Nordic-style bakes to creamy white sourdough, with an imaginative approach to flavour (raisin and rosemary, apple and oat, rye and caraway and beetroot and cumin).

Since their opening back in 2012, Forge Bakehouse have been serving the good people of Sheffield with quality food made from scratch. When you eat at Forge Bakehouse, you can be sure that you’re not feeding yourself with additives or fast food, and they have a commitment to reducing waste and take time over each batch or brew to make everything perfect. Forge Bakehouse have been included in this list because although pizza doesn’t feature on their regular menu, it’s worth watching out for their pop-up sourdough pizza events.

Not far away is the Forge Bakehouse, where everything from the seasonally-changing bread, pastries and even the fillings for the patisseries are handmade on the premises. It’s so good that it’s almost impossible to get a shot of the bakery fully stocked, so get there early before they sell out. As well as baked goods to take away, food and drinks are served from breakfast until dinner within the lovely light-filled glass extension on the side of the bakery, with a further seating area upstairs.

Brunch deserves to be done properly, and in Sheffield, brunch doesn’t come better than Forge Bakehouse. This little gem serves all day breakfast and brunch (meaning you can hit the sneeze button as many times as you like) as well as light lunch and dinner, that you can enjoy on their bakery, or on their terrace if mister sun has decided to show up. At Forge Bakehouse, the food is made slowly and from scratch, “from the ketchup and mayo on your plate to the jam and bread for your toast”.

**Tucked away in the midst of Abbeydale Road, this artisan bakery produces the most delicious sourdough, continental bread and pastries in Sheffield. They use ingredients that are organic and locally sourced and refrain from using any additives, preservatives or improvers in their dough. They do brunch with a twist, such as their Aloo Sabzi Baked Eggs. Or if you have a sweet tooth then the pictured French toast with banana, raspberry, peanut brittle, chocolate sauce, and peanut mascarpone may well be for you.

This is a small but beautiful restaurant that serves British Food Restaurants In Sheffield. They are known for their traditional English breakfast and their mushroom soups that have attracted many regulars who come for lunch daily. This place’s chef has worked in some of Britain’s most famous hotels, including Claridge’s and The Dorchester, so you can expect to eat some authentic food.

Forge Bakehouse – An Abbeydale Road favourite, Forge is a cafe offering homemade breads, pastries and baked goods plus all-day brunch, coffee and cocktails. Nonna’s – The Italian restaurant on Ecclesall Road is a firm family favourite, serving up quality and authentic Italian food at good prices. Ego – A mediterranean spot in the city centre serving up lots of fresh food and cocktails.

To eat well in Sheffield, it pays to explore the inner-suburbs beyond the city-centre – and artisan bakery Forge Bakehouse is certainly worth the diversion. Its first-floor dining room is a Scandi-modern space (look-out for supper club events here), and downstairs, its sun-trap conservatory seating spills out onto the street. Tables are in big demand on bright mornings.

Secondly, this morning went to the Forge Bakehouse in Abbeydale Road, and must say that I found it of a high standard. Four or five types of sourdough (plus many other wholemeal breads), several smaller sizes (just had some with fresh tomatoes and EVO). Plus a very decent patisserie selection, from krapfen to pies , turnovers etc. All fresh.

Founded in 2012, Forge Bakehouse opened its doors as a micro-bakery. You might think, why is a bakery featured in a list of restaurants?. Well, the incredible flavours of the bread won the hearts and minds of Sheffield, and the bakehouse has expanded to offer breakfast, brunch and on occasion, late night suppers.

A real local gem, the Forge Bakehouse sources its ingredients locally, with northern roasted coffee by the North Star Coffee Roasters, so you’ll be sure to get a taste of Yorkshire here. Coffee isn’t the only highlight either, they also serve a wide variety of food – including their signature granola; yum!

There are also a number of sugary delights to choose from, including Portuguese custard tarts and lemon curd doughnuts.

Newly opened by Forge Bakehouse on Abbeydale Road, Mesters’ Social serves the best fry-up in Sheffield. A lovely little slab of crisp pork belly (instead of bacon), awesome locally sourced sausages, barbecue beans and deep-fried bubble and squeak – and proper crispy fried eggs, just how I like them.

Just up the road at Forge Bakehouse everything is made from scratch and the counter is laden with bread, pastries and savouries – pop upstairs for brunch. Bang in the centre of town is Australian-run Tamper, where the coffee is exceptional and they take ‘avo on toast’ to another level.

Just out of the city centre Forge Bakehouse is a Sheffield institution, and a place we’d recommend you should head to on a regular basis (if you’ve not been there before, what are you doing?. Get down there immediately!
