From the doormen in top hats, to the grand silver columns in the art deco-inspired dining room, this extravagant seafood spot in Richmond is so larger than life that we half expect Jay Gatsby to make an appearance on the terrace during one of their midweek jazz nights. Your glass of water will be refilled promptly, your seafood tower will be just as OTT as it sounds, and the rest of the food tastes as incredible as the view from the terrace. The best part is this place doesn’t turn its nose up on classics like fish and chips, and we’re glad because it’s one of our favourite versions of the dish in the city.

Why we love it: For the frankly gorgeous terrace, which looks out over the Thames, as well as a big budget menu of oysters, crab, caviar and plenty of Champagne to wash it all down with. Ideal for an opulent seafood feast, champagne, oysters and all…. Whittaker Avenue’s sprawling Revolution Bar site never quite felt in keeping with the vibe of Richmond residents, and it’s hard to imagine the status-obsessed folk of this affluent London district necking a shot of Sambuca and belting out Don’t Stop Believin’ on a Tuesday night. Nope, line caught fish and lines of fish scale are more the thing ‘round these parts, so it should come as little surprise that the absurdly opulent second coming of Mayfair seafood institution Scott’s has fitted in perfectly over in residential Richmond.

The terrace of the original Mayfair Scott’s has long been one of London’s more reliable celebrity spots, even if the famous faces these days are more likely to be strolling past on the pavement than sitting down to a plateau de fruits de mer. This outside area of this new-ish Richmond outpost is an altogether different kettle of fish, a strip of decking high above the Thames with views of the leafy riverbanks towards Twickenham and Richmond bridges. The seafood-focused menu is thankfully sourced from a little further afield: Devon crab, chalk-stream trout, Cornish sole.

When it comes to the best London outdoor restaurants, you can’t beat a spot of riverside dining. Scott’s made a big splash when it opened up in Richmond in 2022, bringing a heady dose of glamour to this leafy London borough. Pre-pandemic, the arrival of Scott’s along Richmond riverside would have taken many by surprise. While the area has long been known for its charming pubs and bars, the work-from-home attitude many have adopted no doubt beckoned the arrival of a Mayfair institution. Discerning diners in search of an a la carte seafood feast don't need to travel to central London anymore, and the vibe is all the better for it.

The original Scott's is always a good idea for outdoor dining but its newer outpost in Richmond is equally appealing, offering unparalleled views of the Thames from its lofty terrace. There are a clutch of tables, all with a prime position, so competition is high to get one but it's worth securing. Once sat, the menu offers so many seafood delights but the roasted shellfish for two is hard to resist.

The renowned Scott’s of Mayfair’s second location lives up to its splendor and is firmly on the map as one of the best riverside restaurants in London. Located in the heart of Richmond-Upon-Thames, on a crisp Winter’s day you cannot beat this glamorous setting for a festive luncheon or dinner date.
