Reviews Summary

Diners praise Carluccio's for its authentic Italian cuisine, particularly the coal-fired pizzas and pasta dishes, and the delightful waterfront ambiance with views of the Spinnaker Tower. While many highlight friendly and attentive service, a few have noted issues with gratuity and, in one instance, a perceived unwelcoming attitude.

"Visited Carluccio’s at Gunwharf Quays and couldn’t have asked for a better setting ,right on the waterfront with stunning views of the Spinnaker Tower and the sunset. The atmosphere was relaxed yet lively, perfect for winding down after a day out. What stood out most, was the ambience , watching the sun go down over the harbour while dining was a real highlight."

"Lots of comfortable seating and attentive staff on arrival. I had the avocado on toast with poached eggs. It was ok, not as much avocado as I would’ve liked but the eggs were cooked well. Hubby had the traditional breakfast with orange juice. No complaints there and orange juice was fresh. Coffee was very nice! Price was only a little above average but more annoyed at the forced 12.5% gratuity on the bill. I prefer to make my choice regarding tips and felt 12.5% was more than I would’ve paid for service of a breakfast. Unfortunately for that reason I wouldn’t choose to go again, which is a shame as it had a nice ambience. (Just to add, it’s not that I wouldn’t leave a tip, but prefer to be given the choice!)"

Shelley-Anne Morgan

"Lovely service and a nice selection of pasta, pizza and other meals. £30 for a bottle of basic Prosecco seems a bit steep for a chain but otherwise fine. Nice place to have lunch or dinner in the marina area."

Carluccio’s began life in 1991 when Antonio and Priscilla opened their food shop in Neal Street, bringing the finest quality regional Italian food to London. They carefully wrote each label by hand and explored the length and breadth of Italy to find the best ingredients. In 1999 they opened the first Carluccio’s Caffè in Market Place – an authentic Italian restaurant in the truest sense of the word, and a continuation of their successful food shop.

THE BEST 5 Pizza in Portsmouth City (Updated January 2025)

I have been to Italy a fair few times and this is the closest I have found to authentic Italian food. We had lovely waitresses, with one stopping to chat to us for about 5 minutes at the end of our stay which was really refreshing as we were worried about being rushed out the door as we were there til close (but that didn t happen at all!). I ve attached a photo of our food (the excessive amount of cheese was my choice and is not how it comes ).
