Reviews Summary

Diners rave about the exceptional food quality, particularly the Sunday roast and unique starters, in a charming, historic setting with fantastic views. While the food receives consistent praise, some reviews mention occasional surly or slow service, and one reviewer noted high prices for 'concept' evenings.

"What an absolute gem of a Pub!
Food was stunning and if you are seated upstairs you can see them cooking.
Everything is fresh and delivered like a well oiled machine.
The staff are superb and I can safely say it's the best roast dinner we have ever had!
They have rooms too!
Highly recommend!!!"

Sharon Scott

"A Michelin recommended restaurant - and I can understand why. The food here is incredible, showing true excellence in their plating - the food was presented incredibly notably the starter of the smoked eel which we had which was delicious, and the roasts here are done amazingly. The meat is the star of the show being tender and melts in your mouth, with a perfect amount of gravy to pair. The roast potatoes are done well, extremely crispy however we did find they were a bit dry, although amazingly fluffy in the middle. Carrots soft and sweet and cooked well and the cauliflower cheese too followed in the same quality. Although we did not get any desserts without a doubt I feel you’d find that they’re amazing too. Placed in the country side it could be a pain to get too, however the amazing food and the great view that comes with it, I would say it’s well worth the trip. The service too was quick and polite with our servers doing everything to make sure our visit was as comfortable and enjoyable as possible. It’s clear to see why this is such a highly respected establishment."

Joe Mitchell

"We had dinner here and it’s such a beautiful location with fantastic views across the valley from the garden. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the soda bread with butter and salt was like eating a warm hug. The only downside was the service was on the surly side, like the all the waiting staff had a slightly weird vibe. It could’ve been because we were tourists to the area or just an off night, and certainly not enough to put anyone off a visit."

MICHELIN Guide

The Best Restaurants in the Peak District

Unlike a lot of the town-dwelling restaurants in the Peak District, The Blind Bull has a properly rural feel. Situated in the tiny village of Little Hucklow, deep within the National Park, it’s a beautifully restored place which has clearly had plenty of time and money lavished upon it – sit outside if you can, for a view of the rolling hills. The cooking has a few more international touches than other restaurants in the area, including incorporating intense flavours such as nduja and nahm jim.

The best restaurants in the Peak District

The Blind Bull’s owner-manager Raab Dykstra-McCarthy and head-chef Luke Hawkins have reinvigorated this 12th-century inn in bucolic Little Hucklow. Self-proclaimed as the fifth oldest public house in Britain, The Blind Bull remains charmingly olde worlde, all exposed beams, open hearths and stamp-size windows. Diners can choose a seat besides the roaring fire downstairs or by the open kitchen upstairs, before choosing one of the delicious local ales on rotations at the bar.
