Cocktails are creative

Don't hesitate to ask about original cocktails, even if your favorite isn't listed on the menu.

So I took a trip to Kazbar to try out a bit of the food. I’d only ever been here a couple times for drinks previously. The venue itself was nicely decorated inside, was quite busy when I got there & had a good vibe to it. I Singh want much to eat so I ordered loaded spicy chips which was cheesy chill chips with onions, topped with pieces of chicken tikka & sheekh kebabs which was really nice. I ...

Reviews Summary

The Kazbar Tapas Restaurant & Bar is celebrated for its vibrant Spanish-Moroccan atmosphere and a diverse selection of flavorful tapas, with chorizo and pig cheek often highlighted. Guests also rave about the creative cocktails. However, some reviews mention that food could be served hotter and that service can occasionally be slow, especially during busy periods. Despite minor critiques, the overall dining experience is frequently described as enjoyable and memorable, making it a recommended spot in Oxford.

"My partner and I visited Kazbar for lunch and absolutely loved it. We shared five tapas dishes, and the portion sizes were great — we left feeling very full!

We tried the pork burgers, chicken thighs, prawn kebabs, bravas, and chilli beef spring rolls, and every dish was fantastic. Kazbar also makes original cocktails, so definitely ask if your favourite isn’t listed on the menu.

The staff were very polite and attentive, and we enjoyed it so much that we booked to come back again!"

"Tapas options are limited to a handful of restaurants in Oxford. Hence I have visited Kasbar several times over the years. I like the atmosphere and the decor. The menu choices are perhaps a little safe. Nothing that excites but perfectly edible. The staff are always friendly and the service a little too quick if anything. You won’t be left waiting for your food very long."

Stuart Cox

"The atmosphere and decor are very inviting. I loved the large open windows and the colourful bougainvillea flowers. I was passing by, and got tempted by the absolutely fabulous decoration. Their choice of music is fantastic; creates a vibrant mood. Very different from the same old pubs.

Their lemon beer was refreshing, delicious and perfect for summer. However, we later noticed that the beer was past best before date. This is May and the date was crossed in February. That was disappointing. Anyway, the beer tasted fine. But I hope they take more care into ensuring their products are not expired."

The best restaurants in Oxford

Despite its Moroccan name and souk-like ambience – waxed ochre walls, old lanterns and brightly coloured cushions – Kazbar is essentially a tapas bar, and a very good one at that. Just beyond the medieval city centre, it’s a cosily romantic venue to spend an evening with friends or lovers. Good, mostly Spanish wines, spirits and beers, soft drinks and mint teas complement the sizzling tapas.

A Guide to Oxford’s Cocktail Bars

The great thing about Kazbar is not only the location - slap bang on the main strip of Oxford’s inimitable Cowley Road - but also the tapas. Cocktails and small plates go together like Ross and Rachel, and in these Mediterranean styled surroundings you can taste octopus and tortilla with patatas bravas, washed down with Golden Margaritas and a hell of a lot of Sangria. Live flamenco music regularly takes over the bar, allowing you to experience a slice of Spain in the city of spires.

This bar escapes the main hustle and bustle of Cowley Road by being located at the southern end of the road, away from the energetic but busy atmosphere of the bars and pubs located further up the road next to the O2 Academy. Its unique interiors and exteriors show off the Mediterranean theme, be sure to grab a seat in the outdoor patio in the summer. The Spanish music and dance nights ensure a cheerful atmosphere making customers feel like they are on holiday for the night.
