Despite its Moroccan name and souk-like ambience – waxed ochre walls, old lanterns and brightly coloured cushions – Kazbar is essentially a tapas bar, and a very good one at that. Just beyond the medieval city centre, it’s a cosily romantic venue to spend an evening with friends or lovers. Good, mostly Spanish wines, spirits and beers, soft drinks and mint teas complement the sizzling tapas.

The Spanish music and dance nights ensure a cheerful atmosphere making customers feel like they are on holiday for the night.

Again, Kazbar isn’t technically a rooftop, but it does have a delightful outdoor area, and I couldn’t miss it off when it’s as good as it is. Serving up Spanish and Moroccan dishes in a restaurant decked out with North African lanterns and mosaic tables, this is a great one if you want a funky picture for your Instagram as well as some delicious food and drinks. Moreover, they often run events with incredible live Spanish music.

If pubs aren't really your thing, the first thing you should do is to ask yourself why pubs aren't really your thing. The second thing you should do is head to Raoul's, the jewel in the crown of Jericho's cocktail bar scene and the sort of place that gets ranked among the best bars in the UK, let alone Oxford. Their Donn Beach Zombie - limited to two per customer per visit - has been known to finish many a punter's night.
