Just edging the Library as Cowley Road’s premier craft exponent, Big Society is a large, busy space which – with its late-night DJs and ad hoc local art displays, its ping-pong tournaments and its weekly craft market – is the closest Oxford gets to contemporary, big-city cool. The house pale ale, brewed by Oxford’s Shotover, has unusual depth and character and, with the Longhorn IPA, was the pick of the choices across five cask and keg pumps. The fridges, meanwhile, contain a selection of beers from Brewdog, Goose Island, Brooklyn, Beavertown, Camden Town, pioneering US outfit, Flying Dog, and at least one new name on me, Hampshire’s Wingtip.

This venue is a very trendy pub/bar/hangout, perfect if you’re a student studying in this city!. Located on the bustling Cowley Road, you’re surrounded by a good number of bars if you fancy a drink after a bite to eat too. Big Society serve delicious food all day until 10pm, with a tantalizing menu filled with American style food including hot wings, cheeseburgers, hotdogs, fried chicken and many more!

The Big Society is a cool and vibrant bar with tasty American-style fast food and some creative cocktails that you’re sure to love. They’ve got juicy fried chicken and cheesy fries that are perfect for lining your stomach ahead of a night of boozing. You’ll also find ping pong and foosball tables that will allow you to unleash your competitive side when you’re out with your mates.

This versatile, contemporary venue is a pub, bar, eatery and much more, with something fun going on all the time. There are ad hoc art displays, pop up shops, craft markets and you can even play ping-pong or table football whenever you want. Sip on one of the many beers offered or grab a bite from their menu of tasty comfort food like chicken wings and hot dogs.

Big Society are best known for their cheeseburgers and fried chicken, as well as their hot dogs and philly cheesesteaks. The menu has a selection of burgers, lots of different types of fries (chilli, cheese, sweet potato, buffalo), chicken pieces, nachos and hot dogs. If you fancy something sweet there are waffles, vegan brownies and ice cream shakes.

Trendy East Oxford is home to the city’s most vibrant late-night scene. Cross over Magdalen Bridge to find Cowley Road, a hub of independent bars, live music venues, and an incredible array of multicultural restaurants. Although most of the drinking holes that line this famous street are bars, there are still some excellent pub options around here.

Next on our list of the best nightlife in Oxford is Big Society. Inexplicably taking its name from one of Oxford Alumnus and lover of pork David Cameron’s trademark political ideologies, Big Society is a real hoot. One of the coolest bars on Oxford’s famous Cowley Road, Big Soc serves up cocktails, craft beer and junk food late into the night.

Another pet friendly pub for food and drink in Oxford is The Big Society on Cowley Road. The Big Society is a lovely bar with lots of fun things going on Ping-pong and foosball tables and DJs at the weekend. They have an excellent selection of beers, cocktails and wines.

If you’re looking for something to wash this all down with (and we don’t blame you!) there’s an ample selection of craft beers and pale ales. All too often house ales are a disappointment, but Big Society’s are a treat – locally sourced and pleasantly dry.

Big Society is another of my favourite Cowley Road restaurants with a relaxed pub feel, foosball tables and a spacious garden area. The food isn’t gourmet but who doesn’t love American-style comfort food?. (I guess the answer is anyone on a diet!).

We took over the site in September 2012 and after a lot of hard work, putting right this lovely listed building, we opened February 8th 2013. we wanted to create something a little different for oxford. an informal pub/bar/hang out.

Two newish spots in East Oxford fall into a category of their own. Both Big Society and Joe Perks & Co. embrace a formula of craft beers and gourmet hot dogs. Good if you've just moved here from Brooklyn.
