What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Oban Chocolate Company is celebrated for its delectable handmade chocolates and heavenly cakes, with many visitors praising the rich hot chocolate and indulgent treats. The cafe offers a charming atmosphere and friendly service. However, some find the hot chocolate lacks creaminess and that portions can be small for the price, though the quality of the chocolates themselves is consistently high.
"A Sweet Experience to Remember! 🍫
I visited this chocolate shop with my family, and we absolutely loved every moment of it. The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and perfect for enjoying a sweet treat together. The service was exceptional — friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome.
What impressed us even more was their care and attention to allergies. As a family with dietary concerns, we were delighted to find plenty of allergy-friendly options without compromising on taste or quality.
It was a lovely experience from start to finish. Highly recommended for anyone who loves chocolate and great service in a cozy setting. We'll definitely be back!"

"This shop has a lot of chocolate you can buy for eating and also other treats like coffee, ice cream, and a bakery case. We ordered a strong dark hot chocolate, mocha, peanut butter and jelly brownie, and banana date walnut ninja slice. For a chocolate shop, I was quite disappointed with the hot chocolate. It tasted like it was made with water instead milk. It didn't feel very chocolatey or creamy. We thought that peanut butter and jelly brownie was good but more just brownie and peanut butter (I didn't get any jelly). We also bought some chocolate truffles/bonbons for takeaway, which were good. This may be a good stop for some chocolate gifts but the food and drink were just OK."

"I arrived moments before the store was filled with a group of tourists. I spent too much time admiring the displays of chocolate, ended up ordering a hot chocolate after the tourist group. This meant it was a long minute wait before my hot chocolate would be ready. Had to cancel the order (my transport was leaving in five minutes) and settled with savoring a few chocolate candies while in transit."

Scotland in Autumn, Part II: Oban and Loch Linnhe
A quick glance of a brochure shows several highlights for things to do here (McCaig’s Tower, Dunstaffnage Castle, the Oban Chocolate Co.), even if it seems more of a stopping point for adventures beyond. Chief among these is, of course, the distillery, and the fact that it’s central, and not on some isolated promontory, shows how integral it was to the town’s industry. Built in dark grey Bonawe granite, like much of the town’s architecture, inside it’s warm and inviting, sensitively appointed, offering tours (naturally) and tastings (of course), with a welcoming bar and a comfortable lounge with which to enjoy a dram or two by the fire.

The Oban Chocolate Company....a bit of history Having always wanted to run our own business, believe it or not, the idea of Oban Chocolate Company was first born in a campervan on the other side of the world!. Once Helen had graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a 1st Class Honours degree in Food Product Design & Management in 2002, we decided to travel the world to get some inspiration. A visit to the Margaret River chocolate factory in Perth, Australia gave us just that and on return to our hometown of Oban in 2003, we set about testing the feasibility of our plans.
