Reviews Summary

Emilia offers a delightful Italian-inspired dining experience with exceptionally delicious and creative seasonal dishes. Diners praise the cozy atmosphere, the attentive service, and the unique vegetarian menu. However, some guests have noted that certain dishes can be overly salty, and portion sizes may be perceived as small by some, especially given the price point.

"Had an amazing meal at Emilia- we are both vegetarian and noted this on the booking, and they had printed out a separate vegetarian menu for us which was amazing. The food was genuinely delicious, and the decor is very cosy and stylish. The wine list looked great and I was sad we couldn’t get a bottle as I was driving! Whilst I loved being able to see the open kitchen, the only thing that I would improve is the ventilation/extractor fan. All my clothes after smelt very strongly of kitchen (like fat/garlic) including a cardigan I was hoping to wear for the rest of this trip. There was a lot of condensation on the windows so maybe something that sucks the air out over the hob a little better for winter when the windows are closed. I’d still go again though the food was amazing"

"Visited last Saturday and had the most wonderful lunch! Everything we ordered was delicious & seasonal. Lovely service too! Second time visiting (1st time was also great) and I will certainly be back"

"Best meal that we’ve eaten this year (& we visit a lot of lovely restaurants!). We visited for lunch on a whim during a birthday trip to Devon & we will definitely be back. Food was utterly divine, gorgeous and interesting menu & drinks selection, atmosphere perfect and overall superb experience. Love the inclusion of offal. Fab veggie menu. Enjoyed sitting at the window and watching the world go by. Try the sparkling local red wine! We will definitely make an effort to visit again in future. And the new sister French bistro restaurant. Superb!"

Le Vin Perdu – Ashburton

The team behind Emilia, situated just a few doors down, have imparted another gift to the residents of Ashburton with this delightful rustic bistro. Where its sister operation is all-Italian, Le Vin Perdu is full-blooded French in its approach, so don’t be surprised to find the likes of pork terrine or rotisserie chicken on the menu. The décor is understatedly chic, with the bar making a great place for a cocktail or a glass of wine from the blackboard list.

Cosy osteria Emilia is a superb find if you’re seeking an intimate dinner. It only opened in 2022, but the Italian restaurant has already attracted a Michelin Bib Gourmand and slew of favourable reviews. A family‑style wooden table takes centre stage in a snug dining room which is furnished with mismatched seating and vintage light fittings; it’s more like the kind of place you’d expect to stumble upon in the backstreets of Bologna than in a Devon town.

In homage to its northern Italian roots, this wonderfully inviting osteria is set within a former bank in the heart of Ashburton. Inspired by the owners’ - Tom Hill and Clare Lattin - favourite Italian suppers, Emilia beckons for authentic food and wine, each served generously. With one little kitchen, one large dining table, a smattering of bar seats and a daily-changing menu, this Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant is truly special.

Best Buckfastleigh Restaurants - Reviews & Restaurant Guide

2024 Review: “This really was a very pleasant surprise” – a “small but very lively” osteria, set in a former Lloyds bank, that draws its name and inspiration from the Emilia-Romagna region; the “interesting, daily changing menu” is chalked up on the old vault door, and revolves around a “selection of delicious small plates” (including a particularly “stunning” ‘offal of the day’ option).

Our first stop was Ashburton and we headed straight to Emilia for lunch. O wned by the team behind Duck Soup in Soho, it’s a small space, a converted bank, with one main communal table and a handful of extra seats. It’s simple, seasonal food; five or so small plates, five larger plates and three simple puddings.
