This is not an obvious choice for many but Newquay’s harbour caters for any age thanks to the gentle wave free waters, the fishing opportunities and it’s a brilliant spot to try your hand at stand up paddle boarding. It has a small car park next to the harbour but during the peak summer months, it’s very busy so we’d recommend leaving the car in one of the many town car parks and walking here. Spread out a blanket, unpack the bucket and spade and simply relax.

The Harbour Fish and Grill isn’t so much a ‘classic chippy’ takeaway but more a ‘classy chippy’ restaurant for the days where you fancy something a little more, well, fancy. This seaside favourite serves up some of the best fish dishes in Newquay for seriously reasonable prices, and their classic fish and chips option is no different. The fish, lobster and crab is caught fresh from the harbour which is within perfect view of the restaurant.

Two of our favourite beaches for a swim are the sheltered beaches of Lusty Glaze and The Harbour. With a stay at the Great Western, you’ll also have easy access to the Great Western Beach. Whilst slightly less sheltered, this beautiful stretch is right on your doorstep making it the ideal spot for a morning wake-up dip and you can race back up the winding path for a warm shower!

Anyone who visits Newquay needs to book a safari with these guys, excellent friendly instructors all willing to help. We had no previous experience and we were soon zipping along the waves with the help of our guide Jamie. Waves and sea conditions were tough especially on the way out but so exhilarating on the way back, wish we could have stayed all day.

The harbour beach is the smallest in Newquay, becoming completely covered by the sea at high tide. Harbour Beach is easy to access and offers safe and sheltered swimming conditions. Boat trips leave from here in the summer, making this a great place to kick off your day trip!

Built into the cliff directly overlooking Newquay Harbour, The Harbour Fish and Grill was once a grain store that was converted into a house in the 1930s and then to a hotel and seafront restaurant in the 1950s.

Continue along the Coastal Path until you reach the harbour. Take a moment to watch the boats drifting in and out, and imagine the hustle and bustle of this harbour, as it would have been 200 years ago.
