Created by the same people behind the Islington restaurant, Prawn on the Lawn Padstow is perfect for feasting on plates piled high with shellfish, asian-inspired seafood small plates and whole fishes cooked with your choice of seasoning. With a fish counter inside and casual seating, this place has a chill, neighbourhood vibe. But don’t be fooled, in the chi-chi Padstow a meal here will set you back, but it will be worth it.

If you like seafood then you’ll love this cosy little seafood bar, where tasty, tapas-style small plates are the order of the day. It may be compact but the charming team make it great fun and create a laid-back vibe. Choose from the range of fresh, tasty, well-prepared dishes chalked on the blackboards; they even offer whole fish sharing plates, but be aware this can push the bill up.

Without these outlets, Geach was left without a huge chunk of income. Realising that Geach wouldn’t be the only one affected, St Germans organised a Zoom meeting with her farming contacts. “People have enough to do to turn their business models around, so I could help by collating a database of all the initiatives,” she explains.

So says Scottish-born Adam Handling, who has delighted the culinary world with his commitment to making exquisite dishes with zero food waste. True to his cause, Ugly Butterfly combines ingredients sourced from growers, farmers and fishermen across Cornwall into ingenious plates, served in a glass-walled dining room strung with dried flowers. Located above the golden sands of Carbis Bay beach, Ugly Butterfly is a unique fine dining spot where using as much of every animal and vegetable is as important to the chefs as serving up all-bells-and-whistles dishes is. There will almost certainly be some playful elements too (hello dry ice!) so be sure to bring your camera.�

Round up a few friends who love fresh fish and seafood as much as you do and head to this popular Padstow restaurant for an epic sociable feast. The line-up of small plates, whole fish, shellfish platters and delicious sides changes daily depending on what the local fishermen have caught, but the best plan of action is to order as many dishes as you can cram on your table and tuck in – sharing stye. From April to October, Prawn on the Lawn ups sticks to Trerethern Farm just outside of Padstow (and becomes Prawn on the Farm) where it camps out for the warmer months for alfresco (and tent covered) dining.

Maybe you’ll dive into a brimming seafood platter at Prawn On The Lawn, or be warmed by Middle Eastern flavours at sister restaurant Barnaby’s. For next-level eating, book Paul Ainsworth at No.6 Start with a glass of Camel Valley fizz in Cici’s bar upstairs, then let the chefs – they’re led by 2019 Great British Menu finalist Chris McClurg – work their magic. Start with pig’s head fritters with smoked eel and Bramley apple, or raw sea bass, pink-tinged slices curled into the shape of a rose, or celebrate the fleeting St Enodoc asparagus season with some perfectly prepped, cooked and seasoned spears.

Rick Stein’s restaurants often get all the plaudits in Padstow, but Prawn on the Lawn is quietly doing something exceptional without all the famous chef fanfare: fresh, expertly prepared fish caught from the British Isles, served up in a small but welcoming restaurant in the centre of town. Covid-19 restrictions have meant that Padstow fave, the Prawn on the Lawn (which also has an outpost in London’s Highbury and Islington), has temporarily relocated until November to Trerethern Farm, just a mile outside the fishing village. At ‘Prawn on the Farm’, dishes such as whole crab and lobster are served in a marquee overlooking the Camel Estuary, and situated alongside Padstow Kitchen Garden. Small plates include seared tuna with soy, mirin, spring onion and chilli, sweet and sour crispy chilli monkfish and lemon sole with nduja and tarragon.

Showcasing a whole host of awards including the Michelin Guide for eight years running, Prawn on the Lawn has been named one of the Times’ Top 100 restaurants in the UK, and cinched the title of Seafood Restaurant of the Year in 2019. Plus, head chef Rick Toogood is currently up for best chef in the Trencherman’s Guide for 2024. What started as a fish restaurant in north London has now bloomed with another site in Cornwall, too. Headed up by Katie and Rick Toogood, the restaurant in town has the same signature fresh fish counter you can buy from as the one in the capital does, but what sets this one apart is its penchant for pop ups. For the past few years, as soon as the mercury rises, the team pick up sticks and move out of Padstow’s main town and swap it for a nearby greener space to create Prawn on the Farm.

Working with all local producers, Prawn on the Lawn’s vegetables, herbs, fish, shellfish, wine, beer and more all come from North Cornwall. With a commitment to sustainability and the best local ingredients, the flavours on each plate are fresh, vibrant, and ever-so moreish. It’s no surprise then that Prawn on the Lawn has won Seafish and the Caterer’s Best UK Seafood Restaurant award, and has been featured in the Michelin guide every year since opening in 2015.

In Cornwall’s number one foodie town, it’s difficult to rise to fame against the likes of Rick Stein and Paul Ainsworth. But for a little seafood bar and restaurant tucked in the cobbled streets of Padstow, Prawn on the Lawn has made a very big name for itself. Following on from the success of their London site, Prawn on the Lawn decided to take Padstow by storm. Not an easy feat considering the rival seafood company they’d be keeping, but a focus on known local suppliers and a small plate menu that can change by the hour meant that this little oasis continues to thrive. Try Porthilly mussels and Padstow lobster, or perhaps taste the world with Sri Lankan black curry cod or Thai-marinated scallops.

This celebrated, Michelin Guide-featured restaurant launched by Rick Stein and his then-wife Jill in 1975, is open daily for lunch and dinner. They offer a three-course, set lunch menu for £30, comprising of Japanese fish cakes, grilled hake and chocolate mousse for dessert. Lobster thermidor, scallops and an Indonesian seafood curry are on the sample menu, along with an array of non-seafood options and there’s even a children’s menu.

To be honest it’s hard to find fault” with Rich & Katie Toogood’s “tiny” but “so welcoming” seafood specialist (the Cornish spinoff of their London HQ) – “a template for how to run a restaurant”, with “friendly staff who guide you through the high-quality sharing-plates menu” and “a surprisingly interesting wine list”. They also run a large, semi-permanent pop-up, Barnaby’s at Trevibban Mill Vineyard, just a short drive from Padstow.

Our next restaurant to visit is tucked away on Padstow’s Duke Street: the seafood haven known as Prawn on the Lawn. Established in 2015 by Rick and Katie Toogood, this intimate eatery showcases the freshest local catches transformed into inventive small plates. Guests can indulge in a variety of offerings, from chilled oysters and whole Padstow brown crab to larger sharing plates like monkfish with North African marinade.

The first Prawn on the Lawn seafood restaurant opened its doors in Islington, London in 2013, and the Padstow branch followed two years later. Swiftly earning a spot in the Michelin Guide, it was commended for its creative and fresh cooking, with an acknowledgment of its fairly high pricing. While it continues to be one of Padstow’s more expensive dining spots, Prawn on the Lawn is neither flashy nor overly trendy.

Our favourite is Prawn on the Lawn, which has an outpost from its Duke Street seafood bar, at the nearby Trevibban Mill vineyard. Also on the outskirts, South African chef Henk de Villiers Ferreira has turned the local garden centre into somewhat of a dining hotspot.

Farm-to-table dining has become very popular in Cornwall in recent years, especially amongst those that care about what they’re putting in their bodies and want good quality food,. And this is great news for the local farmers!.

Many see Padstow as Cornwall’s culinary capital and I’m inclined to agree with them!. Prawn on the Lawn’s constantly evolving menu means it stays ahead of the competition, as well as in tune with the seasons. It’s also one of the pet-friendly seafood restaurants in Cornwall – so I’d recommend this one if you plan to bring along your furry friend!

Staff were brilliant and made the evening's experience really specially, the food was exceptional - favourites were skate, cod and feta, crab....but honestly everything was a taste explosion!!. A must if you visit Padstow - you won't be disappointed!!!. Also, we could bring our dog...a bonus and she loved it!!

For those that love seafood, then this is the destination for you. With two locations, the restaurant on Duke Street is open from 1st Feb – 27th March they then switch to Trerethern Farm from 1st April – 1st October. The restaurant is small and has two dog friendly tables, so smaller dogs are best.

And this time back with our friends we tried out one of the latest additions to Padstow’s picturesque little streets – Prawn on the Lawn. Owners Katie and Rick opened their first seafood bar and fishmonger in Islington, turning into a restaurant, then went on to open a second place in Padstow.

When it comes to fresh-from-the-ocean seafood, you can’t beat Prawn on the Lawn in Padstow. Their small plates can change daily, and even hourly, depending on what the catch hauls in. Having collected a boat-load of awards and accolades over the years, you can expect truly delectable dining.

Prawn on the Lawn, in Padstow, named after one of its dishes, is committed to a locally-sourced ethos with its seasonal menu. Further up the coast in Boscastle, The Rocket Store offers lunch and dinner made with ingredients straight off the boat from its small seafood bar and restaurant.

Islington couple Katie and Rick moved to Padstow in 2015 to set up this, their second sea food restaurant, after the success of their Islington Prawn on the Lawn venue. Prawn on the Lawn is deliberately simple with only 24 covers at one time, and the menu changes through the seasons.

Paul Ainsworth’s restaurant in Padstow is the only restaurant in town to hold a prestigious Michelin Star. Located on Middle Street in a white Georgian townhouse, the menu has a focus on local produce. When Cornwall is your larder, of course you’re going to make full use of it!

Fronted by a traditional looking fishmonger, venture inside Prawn on the Lawn and you’ll find a compact, modern restaurant. The menu is packed with local shellfish dishes, cooked to perfection on a charcoal grill by owner Rick Toogood. ‘Fresh’ and ‘new’ are the watchwords here.

In summer you’ll need a car or sturdy pair of walking boots to find Prawn on the Farm. The white marquee is strung with rattan lamps and bunting, but it’s the beautiful views over the Camel estuary that set the scene. In winter the restaurant relocates to the centre of Padstow.

A few cobbled streets from No 6, Padstow's Prawn on the Lawn offers tapas-style fish plates (crab som tam, whole mackerel with ’nduja and fennel, Porthilly mussels with clams and manzanilla) in white-tiled, bistro-style surroundings.

Sister to the London original, Prawn on the Lawn combines a fishmongers and stylish seafood bar. Oysters and seafood platters are the main draw, but don’t forget to check out the daily-changing small plates either.

This is the baby sister to London’s Prawn on the Lawn and has been open since 2015. PotL is famed for its excellent shellfish platters with Cornish lobster and crab the staples of the menu.

We change our small plates menu every day and local fisherman land fish right to our door. We won Best UK Seafood Restaurant and featured in the Michelin Guide every year since we opened.
