Scream for Pizza is the brainchild of friends Victoria Featherby and Alex Walker, who met back in 2010 while working in the entertainment department of a cruise ship company. They found common ground in a shared love of pizza and in 2014, between contracts, they decided to head to Naples to do a seven-week course in pizza making at Enzo Coccia’s celebrated La Notizia restaurant. They returned to Newcastle-upon-Tyne and served their creations from a J7 Peugeot, a former French army ambulance turned pizza truck affectionately known as Goldie.

Scream for Pizza is a funky Newcastle pizzeria, specialising in wood-fired pizza made with their own twist of classic and creative toppings. Scream For Pizza began back in 2014, when founders Victoria and Alex left their jobs as cruise ship workers and headed to Naples to pursue a passion for pizza. First taking to the streets of Newcastle in a van, their restaurant can now be found on Starbeck Avenue in Sandyford or a second venue on the Quayside serving up Naples-inspired playful pizza dishes. One visitor praised the restaurant’s beer and wine selection, as well as calling the pizzas “unique, interesting and delicious”.

From their food truck beginnings out of Goldie to fully-fledged Sandyford restaurant, the Scream for Pizza pies have had a reliable mark of quality since day one. The restaurant allows a bit more experimentation so you can get a lobster thermidor if you’d like, but the core ‘for Margaret’ remains one of the best seven or eight quids you’ll spend in Newcastle. Their speciality is real Neapolitan pizzas with inventive toppings, hand stretched and baked in a specially imported log fired oven.

After training in Naples, Alex and Victoria returned home to create mouth-watering pizza, which nine years later the North East still can’t get enough of – so much so that they opened a second venue on Newcastle’s Quayside (I Scream for Pizza) where you can order pizza by the slice alongside artisan soft ice cream.

Serving some of the best pizza you'll find in the region – in fact, the world – out of the back of Goldie, a trusty J7 Peugeot camper van, this street food wagon rocks up regularly at festivals and events (and is a recurring visitor to Gateshead's Staiths Cafe).

This place is my all time favourite for pizza; I just can’t get enough of it!. The pizzas taste really authentic and you just know the chefs there put their heart and soul into each one. Tucked away in Sandyford, this place is a must try.

Following the increased popularity of the original Lobo Rojo in Fish Quay, North Shields, they have decided to open a smaller venue just up the road from ‘Scream for pizza.’
