Describing itself as serving ‘homemade loveliness fresh from the true heart of Newcastle’, Quay Ingredient is sure to provide visitors with excellent comfort food. Providing freshly baked mixed Danish pastries and cinnamon pancakes, this beautifully decorated place with its quaint bar stools, plush leather sofa and framed pictures provides the perfect homely atmosphere.

Serving until 11:30am throughout the week and all day on weekends and bank holidays, they offer the necessary traditional Full English, as well as cinnamon pancakes, eggs in anyway you can think of, and heavenly fresh Danish pastries, all for a very reasonable price. Their breakfasts are perfect and they use plenty of local produce including the highly sought Craster kippers. Tucked away underneath the Tyne Bridge, Quay Ingredient is so cosy, the only downside being the place is so teeny it can be near impossible to get a table, especially on busy weekends.

One of the many highlights of the Quayside culinary scene, Quay Ingredient has some much-loved offerings that will make your brunch brilliant. They got all the staples (pancakes, Full English, avo on toast) plus some super-fancy options like grilled Craster kippers and Toulouse sausage Benedict. Vegans are well-served too with options that include Cajun spicy scrambled tofu and a vegan sausage and hash brown stottie.

Quay Ingredient is highly recommended on TripAdvisor, yet the noisy (and messy) seagulls that line the overhead bridge certainly make you question whether you’ve turned up to the right place. Stepping inside, the travel inspired decor and tiny space make you feel like you’re visiting a close friend’s pad for breakfast. With limited tables, and small ones at that, it’s definitely geared up for a lazy couples brekkie.

Pun-tastic name aside, this cozy little cafe is in an idyllic spot nestled underneath the railway arches, just a few minutes’ walk from the Tyne. What makes Quay Ingredient special is that, uniquely for a cafe, it has its own Cake of the Day, available for just £2 a pop. It has a full lunch menu, complete with salads, hot and cold sandwiches, soups and specialities including Croque Madame.

Quay Ingredient is a tiny little cafe situated right near the Quay (obviously..) not immediately clear from the menu is that they can pretty much alter any of the menu to make it gluten free as they have GF bread. They can’t toast the bread but they can warm it in the oven. I opted for the avo on toast with poached eggs and added a side of bacon.

Located under the Tyne Bridge, Quay Ingredient is the go to if you're feeling like brekkie at any time of the day on the weekends. For brunching on a budget, try the cinnamon pancakes (very cheap) or breakfast sandwiches (even cheaper), or there's always the truffle oil scrambled eggs if your overdraft can handle it.
