Reviews Summary

The Old George Inn offers a unique blend of historic charm and lively modern entertainment. Diners praise the friendly and attentive staff, particularly during the popular bottomless brunches, and enjoy the traditional pub fare. However, some find the atmosphere to be too loud and party-oriented, detracting from the historic pub experience they might expect.

"Best lunch deal ive ever had. I asked if it was a smaller portion because it was so cheap and it wasnt! I had the chicken tikka flatbread with chips and it was so tasty.
Added to that was very friendly service from Beth who is just a delight and the chef even checked in on us...a lovely man. Cant recommend enough. We will be back!"

Kathryn Bradley

"Was not the best choice for our break. Very busy on a Thursday afternoon. Too noisy and a DJ blaring out music. Might be the oldest pub in Newcastle but a "young crowd." Quick pint and out."

MADDOGLEP

"Not one of my favourites but is decent. I’ve only ever had food from here once, it was just alright. I do like the layout of the building and particularly appreciate its history. Not sat in the beer garden yet but seems like a pretty good atmosphere."

This is a quintessentially English pub which is situated in the alleyways of Bigg Market near Illegitimate and Market shaker. The pub has an extensive beer garden residing in a cobbled alleyway decorated with bunting and fairy lights, with plenty of outside television screens for those big footy derbies. The pub itself is spacious and has a great atmosphere, and feels miles away from the bustling city centre streets that surround it.

The Most Festive Bars In Newcastle This Christmas

When it comes to festive bars in Newcastle, The Old George, while it may not be the most glamorous pub (at all), always feels so Christmassy at this time of year. I was there when it snowed a couple of years ago and loved the little courtyard covered in it. I’m also a big fan of the hearty meals at the Bridge Tavern and Broad Chare, and partial to the best espresso martini in Newcastle at Alvino’s too.

Pubs don’t get more traditional than the Old George, the oldest in the city and serving pints since 1583. Charles I was a regular until he lost his head and he was no doubt attracted by the historic surroundings, big sharing plates and late night dancing in the cobbled courtyard. How to get there: The old George is situated in the Bigg Market which means it’s only a 7 minute walk from the situation.
