Sneak preview of Dosa Kitchen’s Mother’s Day menu 🌶️🍋‍🟩 choose from a set vegetarian or meat and fish menu then a plate full of starters, mains, chapathi, chutney and more arrives. You get two small starters, nine small mains and one dessert. Loads of flavours and spices on the plate and loved trying little bits of everything. My faves had to be the garlic paneer, cauliflower coconut curry, fish ...

Reviews Summary

Dosa Kitchen is celebrated for its authentic South Indian cuisine, particularly its flavorful and gluten-free dosas, and skillfully crafted curries. While many praise the bold flavors and attentive service, some reviewers note that prices can be a bit high and service can occasionally be slow. Special occasion set menus have also received mixed reviews, with some finding them not worth the cost.

"One of the best Indian meals we’ve had in over 6yrs in UK. Totally gluten-free friendly. They actually use spice imaginatively and skillfully. The dosas have no wheat in them and the chutneys boast real flavour. We tried the chilli paste special; perfectly crispy, a little sour and a little chewy. The curries aren’t formulaic “choose your protein, then your sauce” ‘curry secret’ nonsense. Bold flavours, excellent technique and real spice mastery. The cocktails are both reasonably priced and delicious. Servers were lovely, caring and helpful. Absolutely restored our faith in the sorry state of Indian restaurants in the UK. No bland, unseasoned food here. We were one of the few guest white couples. Deffo returning with family."

"The food here offers a unique twist to your normal Indian restaurant due to its South Indian roots. With that being said the food here is exceptional and is one of the best places to go in Jesmond for its quality.

I do think the prices could be a little lower for some certain items and service was a little slow for me, for how empty it was. However, still give it a crack!"

"I recently had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful South Indian Tamil restaurant, and I must say, it was a truly delightful experience! The ambience is warm, inviting, and thoughtfully designed — a perfect blend of traditional South Indian charm and modern comfort. From the moment we stepped in, we felt relaxed and welcomed.

The food was the real highlight. Every dish was packed with authentic flavors, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. What impressed me most was how the food managed to win over everyone at our table — my 70-year-old mother-in-law, who is usually very particular about traditional tastes, absolutely loved it. And even my 8-year-old, who can be a bit fussy with new cuisines, finished his meal happily!

The pricing is very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes they offer — not too high, not too cheap — just the right balance for a good family outing.

Overall, it's a great place if you’re looking for delicious Tamil food in a lovely setting that appeals to all age groups. We will definitely be coming back!"

Dosa Kitchen South Indian Canteen is tucked away behind Osbourne Road in Jesmond. The menu offers lots of small plates, the most delicious dosa we've ever eaten and super flavoursome dishes with plenty of veggie and vegan options. Their Sunday Sapaad at the weekend makes for a delicious afternoon - made up of a delicious selection of small bowls with sauces, curries, yoghurts and chutneys, served with a dosa in the middle of the plate to mop it all up.

12 Best Indian Restaurants in Newcastle

Dosa Kitchen is hidden away in the back streets of Newcastle’s Jesmond on Osborne Road. Offering an authentic taste of South India, Dosa Kitchen are famed for their dosas which if you’ve never tried them before, are thin crispy crepes made from ground rice and lentils. Tear off chunks and dip them in traditional sambar, or order one filled – we love the masala dosa which is perfectly crisp, stuffed with a savoury potato mix bursting with spices.
