New Forest Haunted Pub #4 📍 The Fox & Hounds, Lyndhurst This one is famously haunted locally. Speaking to staff in @The fox antics lights still flicker on New Years Eve, the anniversary of John Ives death. The cellar is now on the ground floor, but when it was below staff also reported a feeling of uneasiness and a presence with them! Ghosts or not, it’s a place for a 🍻 in the village! . . . . ...

Consider Miniature Desserts

Opt for smaller desserts with coffee if you can't manage a full-sized one.

Dog-Friendly

A great spot for both humans and their canine companions after a walk.

Reviews Summary

The Fox & Hounds is praised for its cozy, traditional pub atmosphere and its ability to cater to dietary needs, especially gluten-free options. While many enjoy the hearty pub fare like fish and chips and Sunday roasts, some reviewers find the prices to be on the higher side, with occasional complaints about slow service and portion sizes not meeting expectations for the cost.

"The food was excellent. The chips were so delicious. Great slight crunch on the outside and thick and soft inside. The schnitzel was pleasant. A slight pinch of salt would have been better, but there was salt and pepper on the table.

The staff was nice. The seating area was also very nice too."

"Me and my wife booked here for Sunday lunch. My wife's lamb roast was the best she ever had. It was cooked perfectly! I had the pork belly which was also cooked perfectly! Both dishes came with veg and potatoes and a massive yorkshire pudding!! There is the option of miniature deserts which came with a coffee. We thought this was a great idea as it we couldn't manage a large desert! Again delicious sticky toffee pudding and brownie. All the staff were freindly and welcoming and there was a great selection on drinks! Thank you for a great meal!
10/10 would recommend!"

Sam S.

"Amazing authentic pub. Beautiful and cozy inside with lovely antiques to look while you wait.
Wasn’t expecting much from the food, but it surprised us! The fish and chips were humongous, with juicy flavourful fish. The prawn orzo was cooked to perfection, with good quality prawns and beautiful flavours coming through. Prices for drinks and food are very close to London prices, however worth their price."

The 7 Best Pet-Friendly Gluten-Free Spots in Lyndhurst

My wife & I came to the Fox & Hounds with our dog Barney & received a very warm welcome when we entered. I have difficult dietary requirements as I am unable to have Cows Milk, gluten & meat but the kitchen were very well equipped & knowledgeable to make sure I was catered for. The food was out standing I had Gluten Free Pasta with Vine Tomato Confit, Toasted Pine Nuts & Goats Cheese & my wife very much enjoyed her dish of Glazed Ham Hock, Tripple Cooked Chips, Eggs & Spiced Pineapple Salsa.

Another perfect spot for human and canine visitors of the New Forest, The Fox and Hounds, situated in the scenic village of Lyndhurst. Whether you walk from Ashurst, take on the Parish Circular Walk or opt for the more challenging Brockenhurst Circular route, your efforts will be rewarded when you arrive back into the village at this charming spot. Cask ales and fresh food are best enjoyed as you unwind on one of the sofas by the fire, or weather permitting, on the sun-trap terrace.

Eating out with children in Lyndhurst New Forest

It’s another old building, a large pub restaurant, serving food in both the restaurant and the bar. The pub is quite dark (damn trying to read menus in most restaurants nowadays), but it’s a welcoming place to eat and we were made to feel welcome, given choices about where we wanted to sit. There’s some lovely nooks to sit in but we chose to have table service in the restaurant.

A friendly Georgian pub in Lyndhurst’s thriving high street. It’s often busy with both locals and visitors who come to drink, eat, take part in the quiz nights, events and listen to live bands on Saturday nights. Inside is spacious whilst staying cosy, especially with the log burner glowing on a winter’s day.
