What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Seafood Cave & Grill is often lauded as a hidden gem, celebrated for its exceptional seafood, warm atmosphere, and attentive service. Many diners rave about the beautifully presented and delicious meals, particularly the surf and turf and fresh fish. While most experiences are overwhelmingly positive, a few reviews mention concerns about pricing and occasional unfriendly service, though these are exceptions to the general acclaim.
"So for the last time before the venue closes next month I returned to the Seafood Cave & Grill.
The only place I'd never sat was the chefs table and last night we were seated there.
Matlock really have lost a gem here. The food was just delicious. I really hope to see them in another venue soon.
The service, the intimacy of the place, the food, was all just perfect to/for me.
Thank you for 5 beautiful dining experiences 😢"

"Really pleasant atmosphere, with delicious seafood. Hadn't booked popped in just to see if we could be seated. Experienced lovely fresh food. Shame the outdoor bit at the back isn't utilised for drinks seating, etc, as it's got a magical feel."

"Lovely little restaurant, with excellent food. They catered well to my slightly complicated dietary requirements, and everyone in our group of 5 had a delicious meal. The fish was cooked perfectly (which I suppose you'd hope would be a bare minimum for a seafood restaurant but you can never be sure!). The desserts we had were also very good, as was the wine.
The kitchen is open so you can see your food being prepared, and it looks reassuringly clean and tidy! Ian the chef seems like a nice bloke too, and made me feel like my dietary needs were no problem at all.
The building itself is quirky, tucked away in a courtyard and built into the side of the cliff, so it almost reminds me of the places built into the caves in Granada, Spain!"

We had the seafood platter for 2 , my partner is a coeliac so they did not batter the squid and he had gluten free bread and crackers. 1 surf and turf , 1 mussels both really generous and the sauce for the mussels gorgeous , you have to try it . I had a amazing Guinness cake with rum raisin ice cream and he had Bakewell brûlée dessert with gluten free shortbread.

Worth eating in the restaurant and exploring the cave and terraced garden. All staff were friendly and helpful and our stay was just what was needed.
