Remarkable Hare is widely praised for its exceptional food quality and generous portions, with many diners calling their meals the 'nicest family meal in a long time'. The pub is also lauded for its friendly and attentive staff, and its welcoming atmosphere, particularly for dog owners. While most reviews are glowing, one diner found the food and service to be just 'OK' and not outstanding, suggesting other venues might be preferred.

Cafes in Peak District - Adventure Bike Rider Forum
A mate and I are heading to the Peak District for the first time and are planning to enjoy as many of the roads we can fit into a weekend. We turn up in all manner of eateries in the Dales on dirt bikes or Adv bikes and never been turned away. Generally I avoid any place that is ‘biker friendly’ as the food is usually a ‘sub standard calorie laden offering’ and much prefer quality food when paying a handsome price - plus the place is full of noisy bikes
Beautiful Peak District village where you can ride cable car and visit one of the 'best' parks in UK that ‘feels more like Switzerland than England’
You can find the likes of 16oz Chateau for two, rib eye, heart of the rump, and sirloin served with either peppercorn, melted Birchover blue cheese, or Diane sauce. The pub also serves a range of tapas including patatas bravas, Pil pil tiger prawn skewers, and BBQ pulled pork arancini. But don’t worry, they also have pub classics such as fish and chips, the Remarkable steak and local ale pie, and pan roasted chicken supreme.
08/03/25 – Matlock
A quick 8 minute stroll took me to The Remarkable Hare which opened its doors in August 2016. The building has quite the history, originally serving the hotel industry before it was transformed from the Olde English Hotel into a pub. This kind of repurposing is pretty common in tourist spots like Matlock, where older structures are updated to fit current needs.

Officially it's Artists corner car park to the slalom course finish. I think the EA put the access 'steps' in at Darley Dale but there has always been a bit of dispute over that spot. I've launched there a dozen times with no problems so you are probably just unluky.

The portion sizes are incredible...so much so that I took half of it home. The next day we went again and I had a pizza sandwich which was great. Both times we took family who were visiting from the USA, and they said it was the best food of the entire trip.
The Derbyshire town that's massively improved for beer lovers
The Remarkable Hare, the biggest of several outlets in Dale Road – the A6 – sits nicely astride all the descriptions. It’s the former Olde Englishe Hotel and has been smartly revived by Simon Dormand and Jan Leybourne, reopening 18 months ago.
