What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Oystercatcher is highly praised for its fresh, flavorful seafood and generous portions, with many highlighting the oysters and grilled dishes as standouts. While the food quality and service often receive excellent marks, some diners find the restaurant to be noisy and expensive, with occasional critiques of overcooked fish.
"Love seafood and fish so went to try it out. Did not disappoint!. One of the best if not the best place for seafood and fish. I loved all the small plates and big plates. All presented beautifully and the sides did not overpower the flavour of the fish. The portions are really big too so have to say could not finish it all so do recommend to go for more small plates for variety and options. If you’ve not been absolutely worth a try. Would definitely go again!"

"I recently had the pleasure of dining here as part of an IWFS group event, and the experience exceeded all expectations. The food from our bespoke menu was cooked to perfection, beautifully presented, and served in very generous portions. The ambience in this hidden gem, is reminiscent of one you might find in a Mediterranean seaside restaurant, making it easy to forget about being in a south Manchester suburb!
The house wine, a delicate but aromatic white from Galicia, Caramuxo Latido Marino, is a dry, crisp, delicate white, made from Airen grapes, and was a discreet accompaniment to our main course.
Certainly it's no mystery why this Specialist seafood venue receives such consistently praiseworthy reviews. It is well worth a visit. Highly recommended! 👌👍😋🙂"

"Seafood lovers in Manchester—this Chorlton spot is well worth a visit.
We started with oysters, opting for the classic lemon and onion vinaigrette, plus a Vietnamese dressing on two (50p extra each)—a smart choice, as the oysters were a bit large for my preference.
The crab rolls were delicious, served with quality soy sauce and a surprisingly good side salad. The scallops stole the show—rich, creamy, and possibly the best I’ve had.
For mains, the swordfish was perfectly cooked and satisfyingly meaty, while the tandoori monkfish was packed with flavour. With the Oysters & Starters we left leaving very happy and full, but if you’re skipping those, and just ordering a main you might want to order a side (and dessert)!
The food felt five-star, but the ambiance didn’t quite match. The music leaned more toward party vibes, and next time I’d sit inside instead of the front gazebo.
Service was excellent—both staff were lovely and the timing between courses was spot-on."

2024 Review: A “great, popular local fish restaurant” where the “brilliant” and “affordable” catch often comes chargrilled, or with influences from other seafood-loving nations (“favourites include the Thai curry prawn dish”); the “recent addition of outside covered tables” is an added boon.
