What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
The Jane Eyre is lauded for its outstanding Sunday roasts and creative cocktails, boasting a cozy atmosphere and friendly service. While many praise the quality and presentation of small plates, some find the portions pricey for the quantity. Despite minor critiques, the overall dining experience is highly recommended for its delicious food and welcoming vibe.
"A really lovely Sunday lunch
Casual, relaxed atmosphere, the food here was top notch. We started with the infamous ham croquettes which were by far the best we’ve ever sampled. Washed down with a couple of well made cocktails. Service was excellent and our Sunday lunch -one beef, one pork were both really delicious, sadly I did find my beef a little chewy but the whole plate was so delicious I chose not send it back. Regardless of this we’d certainly book again. A great find nestled in the midst of ancoats"

"Went here for a girls night out. Good vibe and staff are very friendly. However there are very limited food options and they are pricey for the quantity. Ended up spending £40pp for 2 cocktails and a few small plates each."

"Absolutely outstanding Sunday Roast at The Jane Ayre. We had the special rolled pork which had delicious crispy crackling, full of flavour and came with stuffing. We had the special side which was red cabbage - divine! The duck fat roast potatoes are sublime!! Attentive staff and lovely atmosphere with a nice autumnal view of the Ancoats square. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

15 Best Things To Do In Ancoats, Manchester's Coolest Neighbourhood
Set up and run by two brothers who have named their venue after their mum (but no, not that one), The Jane Eyre is much more than you might expect from its description as a ‘warm and welcoming neighbourhood bar’. And it’s a whole lot more than that, being one of the finest places to eat in the city. No surprise that the menu consists of small plates, but what small plates, with some of the food on offer more than rivalling more expensive nearby restaurants.
The best bars and nightlife in Manchester
Following the success of the original bar in Ancoats, four of the Jane Eyre’s team set up a second site in the south Manchester suburb of Chorlton at the end of 2022. It’s a welcoming space with midnight blue and teak panelled walls, cotton flowers on tables and twinkling candles. Sit on a stool next to the bar watching bartenders mixing cocktails – order the spicy paloma, a tequila based cocktail with warming and zingy scotch bonnet agave.
Chefs defend Manchester’s food scene after criticism from footballer’s wife
Perhaps she lacks the instinct or curiosity that would very quickly lead her to one of the many amazing independent eateries Manchester has to offer these days: Erst, The Jane Eyre, Sparrows, to name just a few. Maybe they’re not high-brow enough for her to be seen in?. In which case I wonder why she doesn’t frequent Mana, or even the top floor of part-Pep Guardiola-owned restaurant Tast.
21 best bars in Manchester
Nope, not a Brontë theme bar, all tempestuous Victorian gothic and Mr Rochester-inspired cocktails: it’s actually named after the late mother of owners Joe and Jonny Eyre. If anything, it feels like a Barcelona vermut bar – partly because of the clean white counters and small plates such as prawn pil pil, ham-hock croquetas and chorizo in cider, but mainly because it’s just such a nice place to hang out in the daytime. A place to sit at the bar with a glass of natural wine and bowl of almonds and watch life go by on Cutting Room Square outside – the epicentre of buzzy Ancoats.
