Reviews Summary
Skof offers an exceptional, Michelin-starred fine dining experience, lauded for its innovative 16-course tasting menu and impeccable seafood dishes. Guests consistently praise the warm, attentive service and the unpretentious atmosphere, making it ideal for special occasions. While the overall experience is highly rated, a few diners noted that some dishes didn't quite meet their high expectations.
"Four of us visited Skof on a Saturday evening for dinner service, this was me and my wife’s first experience of Michelin Star food and we were not disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by all the staff. As my wife has an intolerance to garlic this was noted when we booked and my friend who booked for us had a number of calls with Skof who wanted to make sure they understood this and make sure that she was catered for.
We stared with a cocktail from the menu and chose the 16 course menu with 2 of us opting for one of the wine pairing menus and the 2 others going for the low alcohol option.
When the food started to come it was as amazing and described to us and also the server pointed out what they had done differently for my wife to cater for her. The food was truly amazing with so many amazing dishes but for me the seafood dishes throughout were the stand out with the Scallop, Langoustine and cod being the top dishes for me.
The fact we were brought up to the counter for one of the courses was fantastic and gave us a close up of what goes on in the kitchen.
Our table was booked for 6:30 and we didn’t leave until 10pm, time just flew as we were taken through each course.
This was a meal I will never forget made all the better by the staff who were fantastic."

"AMAZING! Wow- what a meal we had at Skof. Every dish- perfection. The staff were amazing, the place itself is stunning and the wine was gorgeous. Really hard to pick a favourite from so many dishes but the lobster roll, miso custard and the Manchester honey dishes were all at the top! Perfect wedding anniversary treat and one of the greatest culinary experiences of my life. 10/10- thank you team Skof"

"Amazing. Incredible selection of textures, temperatures and tastes. The 16 course that we went for is a real journey. Staff were fantastic, as you would expect from Michelin star fine dining. My wife has particular tastes which Skof were happy to work around in the menu. These were not allergies, just indulgences but were accommodated without fuss. Table bill for two x 16 course menu, 2 x no alcohol drinks flight, 2 x glass of wine was £500. Lived every minute of the 3.5 hours we were there."

Best restaurants in Manchester 2025
Located within a handsome phalanx of Victorian-era buildings, Tom Barnes’ debut restaurant is a suitably class act. A former exec chef at Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume, Tom deftly deploys exceptional produce (some from Rogan’s Cartmel Valley farm) across tasting menu dishes of, say, Orkney scallop, barbecued kohlrabi, apple and watercress, or miso custard, mushrooms, truffle and dashi. This is precise, flavour-forward food served with a rare polished ease in a warm, comfortable dining room.

Breaking Mana’s Michelin monopoly, Skof has swiftly become Manchester’s second-ever restaurant to earn a star – achieving this milestone in less than a year. The mastermind behind it is Tom Barnes, formerly executive chef at the three-star L’Enclume, a Roux Scholar, and a Great British Menu finalist. Stepping out of Simon Rogan’s shadow, Barnes has launched his own venture in a converted textile warehouse in Manchester, offering his refined take on modern British cuisine.

Within a year of opening, Skof secured its first Michelin star – a testament to Head Chef Thom Barnes’ talent and vision – but this came as no surprise to anyone who has eaten there. Or worked with him in the past, during his time at Simon Rogan’s L’Enclume or any number of other noteworthy restaurants, for that matter. This place is impossibly chic, but not the sort of fine dining place you feel uncomfortable in if you don’t really do fine dining.
