She cooks like your Spanish grandma— but with sharper knives and a Michelin star. 🔥 Meet Nieves Barragán Mohacho, the chef who made real Spanish food a London obsession. Reviews Summary

Sabor offers a lively and fun Spanish dining experience with many dishes praised for their flavor and quality. While the vibrant atmosphere and friendly service are highlights, some guests have noted that certain dishes can be overly salty, and noise levels can be high. The suckling pig and octopus are frequently cited as must-try items, contributing to an overall memorable meal.

"Sabor is an experience, perhaps not best described as truly “authentic”. The food was tasty, very good quality, interesting, and some dishes I would have again. The waitresses we had were super friendly, lovely and knowledgeable, and made the visit worthwhile. I can describe it as a fun tapas experience in London. The specials on the blackboard tend to be awesome! The monkfish tempura was soooooo nice!!"

"Out of all the restaurants I've eaten at, including other Michelin starred establishments, Sabor is the best.

If there's one dish you have to try, it's the Octopus at the counter. The octopus tentacled are grilled to perfection. A delightfully soft yet plump texture, filled with flavour, with a slightly crispy crust. The accompanying peppery and tomatoey sauce is hits your tongue with an explosion of flavour, absolutely mouthwatering. As you can probably tell I think about this dish a lot.

Sabor's other offerings are also excellent, with a changing specials board (though the Octopus is on a another level in my opinion).

Counter seats are mostly reserved for walk in, I've often been quickly seated as a solo diner or with one other."

"Another amazing dining experience for my husband’s 50th.
We ordered the entire menu pretty much. I cannot tell you which dish was my favourite as they were all incredible! But that pig is so juicy and the crackling is perfection. Our server Ilaria was extremely helpful and made my husband’s birthday that more memorable.
I want to return and explore more of the seafood options."

Sabor has a lively atmosphere and is generally considered smart-casual. There isn't a strict dress code mentioned, but dining in upscale establishments often encourages smart attire.

The downstairs counter offers a casual tapas experience with walk-in seating, focusing on seafood and tapas from across Spain. Upstairs, El Asador is for booked reservations and features more traditional country cooking from Galicia and Castile.

While Sabor focuses on Spanish cuisine which often includes meat and seafood, they do offer some vegetarian dishes like tortilla and vegetable-based tapas. It's best to inquire directly about current options.

20 Best Spanish Restaurants in London for Iberian and Basque Food

Sabor (the first solo gaff from Barrafina’s one-time leading lady Nieves Barragán Mohacho) is an absolute blast – especially if you bag a spot at the no-bookings ground floor Counter (the bookable El Asador lives upstairs). The line-up of rustic small plates is all-round flawless, from stunning tortilla made with cured sausage to utterly dreamy fruit tartaletas. You’ll love the cooking, but you’ll also love the vibe – eating here is just such huge fun.

Where To Go For Lunch in London

Sabor feels less like lunch in London than a family get-together in Spain – which is to be expected as it’s the first solo restaurant from Nieves Barragan Mohacho (before this, she was the tour de force running the kitchen at Barrafina Dean Street for eight years). The two-floor set-up offers a number of different but equally rewarding dining paths; you can use up your week’s worth of luck and try for a seat at the counter where seafood sourced from their own in-house fishmonger leads the way, round-up a gang at El Asador upstairs where wood-fired dishes like Castilian suckling pig take up half the table, or perch yourself at the bar and do the classic thing by overindulging on tapas and sherry. Either way, there’s no bad seat in the house.

What: El Asador, one floor up from the fino-fuelled bar and tapas counter at street level (Sabor: The Counter), tells a traditional story of Spanish country cooking, long family lunches and copious quantities of Rioja. The Galician steak here has its followers, but most come for suckling pig (quarter, half or whole), cooked in a Castilian wood oven the time-honoured way, to produce crispy, tanned skin and tender flesh that needs only the slightest touch with a knife to fall off the bone. The Spanish wine list is a pleasure to explore, with plenty by the glass from well-known producers, old and new – another highlight of this Iberian high-flyer.Where: 35 Heddon Street, W1B 4BSBook now: Sabor: El Asador

A visit to ex-Barrafina chef Nieves Barragán Mohacho’s beautiful restaurant is like going on a little holiday. Tucked away just off Regent Street, Sabor is split into two dining experiences – upstairs, El Asador specialises in more hearty dishes from the Galicia and Castile regions; meanwhile, the ground floor is all about tapas. This is another dynamic open kitchen with a counter where you can watch the chefs skillfully creating monkfish tempura, cuttlefish pappardelle with manchego pesto, piquillo pepper stuffed with braised ox tail and tender octopus.

Great London restaurants we LOVE!

We are big fans of this Spanish spot founded by Nieves Barragan and José Etura. Offering guests four distinct experiences and menus across the multi-storey space, choose from dining at the Counter, La Mesa, and the Bar on the ground floor or El Asador on the first floor. The shared counter dining experience is walk-in only, so there usually a pretty big queue, but serving a daily menu of seafood from the fish counter alongside regional Spanish delights, we think it’s definitely worth the wait.
