What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Diners rave about Jikoni's inventive 'no borders' fusion cuisine, with many dishes receiving outstanding praise for their unique flavors and impressive presentation. The warm and attentive service, combined with the cozy, vibrant atmosphere, makes for a truly memorable dining experience. While most reviews are overwhelmingly positive, some patrons noted that certain dishes were just 'good' rather than 'amazing,' and portion sizes for small plates were sometimes considered on the pricier side.
"Fantastic atmosphere, the food was outstanding and at a reasonable price. Their take on a scotch egg really hit the spot (Prawn Toast Scotch Egg) I ordered more than one. Very attentive team but not overbearing which is nice to see in such a busy and vibing environment. Great wine selection. Also the banana cake with Miso and Butter scotch, what a dream!"

"Good but not great. Very mixed feelings around the table for place. Some dishes were amazing and others were pretty meh.
10/10 - broccoli salad, prawn scotch egg, prawns.
Ordered extra garlic rice and the presentation was so poor, looked mushy but actually tasted nice. Eggplant dish was also good."

"Excellent service and very pleasantly decorated restaurant. The fusion style menu brings together a refreshing mix of flavours and cultures. Our group of 5 ordered all the veggie small plates and enjoyed all (with the exception of the blood peach/tofu dish which wasn’t to our taste). The kale chaat was our favourite 👌🏽. Both the crispy aubergine and squash pakora dishes were delicious. Plates are definitely on the pricier side given the portion size but worth visiting for a special meal and to experience a different menu."

It is not just mouth-watering food which makes up Jikoni’s USP. Restaurateur Ravinder Bhogal’s mission to forge a greener world for the hospitality industry means Jikoni was the first independent restaurant in the UK to be certified as carbon neutral. The Marylebone kitchen-style diner takes its cues from Ravinder’s early memories of Kenya and offers up a deliciously unique menu which even features impressive vegan and vegetarian offerings. Tuck into sweetcorn and lime leaf fritters, crispy aubergine in a Sichuan caramel with sticky garlic rice; pumpkin and sweetcorn Swahili curry and dhal Dhokli - and all in the knowledge that you have done the environment no harm.
30 Popular Indian Restaurants In London, Ranked
Perhaps the most unconventional of the restaurants listed, Jikoni brands itself as a "no borders kitchen," taking inspiration from the owner's homeland, Kenya; her ancestry, India; her childhood home, London; and the diverse flavors of the Middle East. This results in a surprisingly comprehensive yet eclectic menu featuring vibrant beetroot handvo with whipped feta, messy avocado chaat, and saffron sheermal served with Cornish lamb spiced with ras el hanout. Casually glamorous Jikoni describes itself as a kitchen without borders – and that philosophy applies not only to its culinary influences, but the ingredients themselves. Vegetables are resolutely upgraded from side dish status with hearty, jealousy-inducing mains like the crispy fried aubergine (whose rich Sichuan caramel sauce sets every one of your tastebuds pinging) and the wholesome butternut squash moilee with coconut chutney and lemon rice. And the good news is that every one of their creatively inventive cocktails happens to be vegetarian too…
