Over in Kirkgate Market, chefs Liz Cottam and Mark Owens have launched The Owl, the market’s first proper restaurant and an upmarket one at that. A former Masterchef contestant, Liz perfected her kitchen skills at pop-ups and supper clubs before teaming up with Mark and opening high-end restaurant Home, followed by The Owl. It slots in next to Kirkgate’s bustling Fish Row seafood counters, its austere charcoal-wood exterior belying the intricate enterprise within that’s earned it a Michelin Plate.

Trinity Kitchen has opened and I’d been very kindly invited by Libby Edwards, Head of Marketing from Pho Restaurant to come and meet Stephen and Jules who’d set up the venture. After a trip to Vietnam 10 years ago they fell in love with the food and saw an opportunity to fill a gap in the UK market, opening London’s first Vietnamese street food restaurant in 2005. Since then, they’ve open Pho in a number of different locations in the South, but this is the first in the North of England.

Trinity Kitchen is not only a haven for foodies, but it’s also a fantastic place to enjoy a meal with kids. When it comes to memorable food we had us wedding grub served up by Sheepscar Bar and Grill which is located in a former Working Men’s Club on the outskirts of the city centre. While they’re instagrammable with all the flower walls for me it’s all about the grub and I think they do one of the best mixed grills in Leeds. That’s not forgetting the Chinese food we had after the wedding at Joy’s Kitchen which serves up Chinese style tapas aka Dim Sum.

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve enjoyed some good food here, but I’ve not seen anything different for a while. There always seems to be burgers, Thai, Greek and Indian food on offer in some variety.
