Like The Alchemist upstairs, experimentation with exotic and unusual flavours is the drink menu’s selling point, as top spirits and strong-flavoured plants are harmoniously tumbled together. Some of the mixes sound terrible on paper – such as porcini-infused syrup and tomato juice – yet somehow produce sweet music rattled together with ice in a pretty glass. The drinks range from the simple (watermelon martinis) and the intriguing (think sorrel and orange mojitos), to the wacky, such as the red pepper and porcini Manhattan.

But really, it’s all about the trendy shopping centre Trinity Leeds, with 120 outlets including The Botanist cocktail bar (killer combination? Pornstar martinis, £9.95 and lamb koftas, £13.75); clothing/homeware at Urban Outfitters; Damaged Society, stocking on-trend brands such as Vans, Dr Martens, Loungefly and the Ragged Priest; plus Curated Makers showcasing local artisans. Not forgetting Trinity Kitchen — a cavernous industrial-chic space rotating six street food vendors every few weeks — which is the hang-out of choice for the under-30s.

The Botanist is a stylish botanical bar hidden away below the glass dome of the Trinity centre, popular for after-work drinks, but there are also some great kid-friendly options on the menu. Whilst you’re choosing, the sprogs will be kept entertained with colouring books and puzzles, and when Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough is on the menu, you’re sure to score lots of brownie points!. Plus, there are plenty of highchairs, lift access for buggies and changing facilities… family meal out = sorted.

This charming, rustic bar is a popular Leeds venue thanks to its quirky, botanically themed interior, offering visitors a rather atmospheric dining experience. They make for the perfect accompaniment to their amazing brunch dishes which cost anywhere between £9.95 and £12.95.

Choose from Roast Sirloin of Beef, Roast Chicken, Pot Roast Lamb Shoulder, Slow Roast Honey Glazed Pork Belly or Celeriac, Mushroom and Pearl Barley Wellington. All roasts served with maple glazed carrots, roast potatoes, minted greens and gravy. They really take ‘comes with all the trimmings’ seriously, with loads of sharing sides to choose from.

Thankfully, my hotel, The Met, was just five minutes’ walk away so I nipped back there to freshen up before heading out to The Botanist, a rustic pub, for dinner.
