Reviews Summary

The Square Orange Café is a beloved spot in Keswick, frequently praised for its exceptional stone-baked pizzas and tapas, friendly staff, and lively atmosphere. While its intimate size means tables can be scarce, most find the wait is well worth it for the quality of food and overall dining experience. Some visitors have expressed frustration with the inability to book tables, leading to disappointment when unable to secure a spot.

"A lovely cafe in the centre of town. Exceptionally friendly staff who made sure we were looked after while we waited for our table. Food was equally good, particularly as it was prepared and cooked in the smallest kitchen I’ve ever seen. Would definitely eat there again."

James Garnett

"Visited twice in two days. We had coffee and the most amazing lemon and raspberry blondies then went back for pizza the next night. The pizzas were some of the best we’ve ever eaten. Really recommend no 8 and 12 as well as the nachos."

Kate Wankowicz

"A great little cafe that is full of surprises. Didn't expect to find great pizza or tasty nachos. We started with coffee and cake, food orders are taken from 12pm. After that we ordered lunch, service was polite, and the food was very good indeed. What was fascinating is that the kitchen is one oven by the bar, and the chef is able to do his magic well in this tiny space. It does get busy so go early. The name has an interesting history, so ask. As a strange combination of bar, coffee shop, pizzeria and tapas, it works really well."

The music is laid-back; the staff is undeniably cool; the walls are hung with paintings and photos; and there are housemade pizzas, tapas, and pints of local beer for long rainy days or cold winter nights. The 20 best Places to Eat in Keswick

We don’t know why it’s called The Square Orange, but this quirky little café in the heart of Keswick is well worth a visit if Roman-style (that’s thin and crispy to you and me) stone-baked pizza, a selection of European-inspired tapas, or a bowl of tasty nachos gets your taste buds dancing. They have lots of vegan options too. There are also guest wines from family-run vineyards, beer from local microbreweries and further afield, and coffee from Cumbrian roasters, so whether you just want to pop in for coffee and cake during the day, or a pre-pizza Aperol spritz in the evening, a warm welcome awaits.

Whats Keswick like for night out

As mentioned, the Dog and Gun and The George are good for food and beer – Square Orange for ale, pizza, tapas. The Lakes Bistro and Morrells are good for food – three curry houses, two chinese, and one thai, all pretty similar standard. Chippies in town are pretty rubbish – Bank Street’s usually the best though.
