All would have stayed at the Rising Sun Hotel, a thatched 14th-century smugglers' inn that has had a 21st-century makeover by a London designer. In fact, several chapters of Lorna Doone were written in one of its rooms, while Percy and Harriet are reputed to have stayed in a cottage attached to the hotel, now named after the poet, which has its own sitting room and private garden. The views from here are pretty spectacular, but you can do even better, by riding to the top of the cliff in Lynmouth's curious water-powered funicular railway.

We stayed at the Riverside Cottage B & B in Lynmouth.The B & B was very relaxed, the food was excellent,.We would definitely recommend this establishment.Unfortunately we were never back in time from our beautiful River walks to have lunch or a coffee & cake in the Cafe that was run by the same people, we would have liked to sample some of the food on the menu.We had our evening meal in the Rising Sun just along the road, the ambiance was very homely, & the food & service was very good,

Rising Sun Hotel – Enchanting doesn’t quite do it justice at the Rising Sun. The thatched roof pub has been plying its trade on the Lynmouth cobbled quaysides for agessss. They do local produce, serve local ciders in the moody Victorian-style drinking room, and have rooms that peer out over the waters of the Lyn River.

The Rising Sun is a cosy pub on the harbour, serving great food and real ale. It’s great to sit outside at sunset and watch the changing colours on the heather on the sea cliffs across the bay. The pub is tied to Hall and Woodhouse Brewery and you can expect a wide selection of beers from this excellent brewery.
